View Full Version : I Question This Team's Basketball Intelligence

We won, but damn that was frustrating to watch our guys make so many poor decisions down the stretch.

Just watching this team and the poor decisions they continue to make, you have to question this team's basketball intelligence.

Poor decisions by our guards, poor decisions in guarding the perimeter, poor ill-timed fouls. It makes you wonder if they understand the game sometimes. There's more to the game than running, jumping, and shooting.

Our guard play has hurt us more than anything this season, but Maze sometimes tries to do too much and wants to be the "go to "guy too often for my taste.

We had one defensive possession where we committed 4 fouls. That is just pure stupidity and not knowing the situation.

Down the stretch, our guys knew that Florida would be trying to hit the trey and yet, they would not jump the shooter coming off of the screen and allowed the Gators 3-4 treys in the end. Just poor basketball intelligence.

Tux, it's been like this pretty much all season. The win loss record is about where I predicted (22-8), but I'm disappointed at the lack of development of the team as the season has went along. I will note that the team didn't really finish well last year either.

What really has hurt this team IMO is not having Ramar, not the player, but a pg that would have been a JR. with a ton of experience and leadership to share with the new guys.

On Maze, from what I've read and heard Pearl & staff have pushed he to do more offensively than what he started at the beginning of the season.

IMO Pearl will never have a Final Four caliber team with the lack of consistent defense that ALL his teams have shown since he's been the HC. Couple that with the fact that most of his teams haven't shot free-throws well and you have a team that mostly depends on hot shooting in the tourney. If your teams are like that then usually your not a major player in the tournament.

I like Pearl, he says the right things IMO and recognizes most of the time what and how the team is getting beat. His teams in the future though have got to do more, and be more diverse to take on a bigger variety of match-ups on O & D than what they have been.

I thought the game against FL was one of the more intelligent games they played. We took advantage of the matchups. There will always be some boneheaded plays in every game, the game is played at a fast pace and sometimes players get over zealous. I do think that this team is trying to come together and play better, but just has been inconsistent.

During that four foul stretch, they were all hustle fouls - still not smart, but at least they were trying their damnedest to make a play.

Scotty finally did pop out and block the three that would have killed us. I'm still pretty darned happy with this win, as 1) we had to have it 2) a road win against fl is huge (are we getting spoiled here and taking that for granted?) the last time they lost at home was against us last year.

I still maintain that we've gotten MUCH better guard play the last two games and it was nice to see Tabb and Cam play a part in that as well.

I'm going to the USC game Thursday with one of my brothers, my son and my nephew and we'll yell enough to pull them through....

I may be there as well OB. I'm not sure the building can contain both of us at the same time.

But I really would rather wait, hope we beat USC and go to the Bama game to witness in person a victory to win the SEC East. So I'm not sure yet if I'm going to USC.

Going to be hard to beat Carolina. I think UT has only won twice @ Columbia.

Tennessee is 8-14 in Columbia
Bruce Pearl's record vs. SC is 6-2 and his teams are undefeated at the Colonial Center.

The Vols will have to play better than they did against Florida, to beat the Gamecocks. They've got one helluva team this year and when was the last time SC won anything resembling a championship (in anything)? We'll have to play our best game of the year so far on Thursday night.

Tom Davis teams didn't do real good in the tourney. I think one of his Iowa teams made the elite 8, his all time best team. Not saying Pearl will follow. Afterall, Pearl already has about as many tourney wins as the entire history before he got there. So I think he will be here as long as he wants to.

I didn't think this was correct, it's not. SC beat TN in the Colonial Center Feb. 17, 2007.....81-64. Just nit picking:nutkick:

Pearl said on Vawl calls that he thought SC and LSU were playing the best ball right now and it will be a very tough test Thursday.

If you're really going to go you're welcome to join my family for a pre-game meal. It will be like Arafat and Begin eating burgers together - My brother can be Jimmy Carter!

I'm not sure exactly where we are going to eat, but it will be around 5pm so we've got plenty of time to get to the arena. If you've never been, the arena is very nice - not as nice at our's, mind you....

Thanks Bang....I read it wrong when I looked up the all time results for UT/USC.

Watched that game on ABC too, I think I wanted to puke about 15 times.
