I just had a post deleted in about two minutes, as a matter of fact it was deleted while I was adding some more info to it. It was in the thread where IV was wringing his hands about O or Lance Thompson going to Florida STate, which neither one would even consider doing right now.

Anyone, dropped down to the Griff the Stiff thread. This reply won't last long either!

is that I realize he is not paid to be a UT Cheerleader (thank goodness as that would be money wasted), but someone of his "ilk" should be able to expound on his "calling it like he sees it". Yet he doesn't. Instead he says that those who are disagreeing with him are to be casually labeled as "idiots" of the board. That may or may not be the truth, but I would not pass that judgement as I don't know. And since I'm sure Writer32 doesn't either, he shouldn't do that.

My point? He's a professional who goes to nearly every board linking his columns for all us "idiots" to read. It helps him. It helps his ability to continue to post blogs or columns or whatever it is he does. Frankly, I don't open those links. But if the UT fan base is his customer, why is he so quick to disrespect those who do help him put food on the table? I've learned that journalism used to be a profession of integrity. Unfortunately, many at the KNS have, over the years, begun to change my mind about that. It's unfortunate that Mr. Writer32 still pedals his columns but cannot return the respect that he is soliciting us for....readership but not an opposing opinion? Over the years, I've learned that sports message boards are generally not for the squeamish, so if posters in this thread who are asking for him to expound on his knowledge/opinion, it shouldn't be that difficult to do. But to resort to name calling places him far below where I thought he was and where I still think he should be.....professional. But that's just the opinion of another idiot I suppose.

Bernie, he pimps his blog all over the net. No one expects him to be a cheerleader for the Vols, but neither do they expect that he continue to diss the new staff every opportunity he gets whether real or a product of his imagination. Hey Griff the arbitrons are in from when you were on with that convicted pervert Jim Steele. You had 48 people listening to the broadcast.

In the new media era, IMO, a) the rules are being written as we speak and b) for the time being, it's part of a journo's job to write the facts/give commentary (whichever side his/her job falls on) and then after they post the story, go in and bait and gig readers/posters/respondents in the discussion column as much as possible.

That way, they get more hits to the site and can pimp the numbers to get more advertisers/charge more for banners/pop-ups, etc. Fan the flames, skirt on being as controversial as your bosses will allow and then pull numbers.

I've seen it happen in more and less obvious ways, but it seems like that's part of 32's job. If Strange and Adams do it, they're being very discreet about it.

But additionally, this new media era is no longer a one way conduit of information, from high and mighty media pen, to the great unwashed masses. Now, the pundit must address comments from the cheap seats. Some react better than others at this new situation.

Some writers resent stupid reader's comments and condescend to the ignorant masses. Others engage this conversation fairly and without undue annoyance.

I've seen this happen with the national political press and most of the old timers just don't handle it well. The younger generation of up and coming writers use it to their advantage.
