Yer old pal sangle wang sees conspiracy in all of this. Meyer very obviously criticizes officials in a public forum. It was just too precise. He knows exactly what he is doing. He and Slive cooked this up so that Meyer can be given a meaningless fine (guy's worth millions), Slive can look like a badass, and then everyone will look away while Slive continues to completely build a wall around his favorite program ever.
Scripted, I say.

He will be suspended for the coin toss one week.

Does he want to look like a hypocrite, or does he want to look petty?
That pretty much sums up the spot that Slive finds himself in. He can fine or suspend Meyer for a pretty vanilla criticism of an official or he can ignore it like he did with the Vandy coach. Either way he comes out looking like an ass.
We won't even mention how stupid it is to run around policing what the coaches are saying about the officiating when you have guys gouging their opponent's eyes out on national television and not a blessed thing is done about it.
How did we get stuck with this ignorant piece of shit as commissioner in the first place?

I say SW you are pretty much on the money with this one...all the heat CUM has taken this week on the Spikes deal and he all of a sudden does this...I smell a fat rat....

Slive will suspend the official in question and publicly praise CUM for exposing said official and helping him clean up the conference.

Slive just went on vacation to Butte Montana. Wont be back until all the smoke is clear. He did say he was watching what Kiffin said while he was gone.

Agree - a little too convenient on the timing and very out of character for CUM.
Will be interesting to see the outcome. As the last article states, Slive is out of town and something "might come out by the end of the week". My guess is a fine in the 10K range, with more stern warnings from Barney Fife/Slive about how serious he is, along with some callouses on his hands for patting himself on the back so much for being such a "tough guy".
What a fucking douchebag.

I bet his callouses aren't from patting himself on the back...

Allowing that Gattis' is with the Huntsville Times, this still is a state of Alabama newspaper and it does get read with other Bammer football.
Apparently that new, stricter mandate prohibiting coaches from publicly criticizing coaches didn't mean anything.
At least not to Florida coach Urban Meyer.
Five days after Slive announced coaches would be subject to fines and suspensions for criticizing referees, Meyer criticized a referee. And he did it about as publicly as he could, speaking Wednesday on the SEC media teleconference.

Somebody needs to call up the Cowherd and Rome shows tomorrow and point this bullshit out, that CUM is just doing this to gain some cred with his team and recruits. All the national radio guys have turned on that gator prick anyway, and this will give them a chance to truly crucify him over the air.

Scripted, no doubt. But maybe not for the same reason.
CUM may be getting an acute case of Lane envy. It is shaping up like we may pilfer several in-state recruits off the top of CUM's board. He knows Kiffin has made UT's program not only relevant but hotter than a firecracker in less than a year on the job. It's now apparent to CUM, UGA, & Bammer that there's a 900 lb bull in the SEC china shop and it ain't going away.
You're starting to see the rats react. CUM floats this BS about Monte retiring to Jeff Luc. The AD at UGA is making waves about upgrading Richt's staff if not Richt himself. Bammer pulling the no you cant wear Orange jerseys stunt.
Perhaps CUM has decided he needs to be more of a badass like his buddy Lane to attract PR and make recruits go "wow".
Either way, there's no doubt that this was planned. Good sports journalists will get to the bottom of it.

I don't believe anything is planned or coordinated between Slive and Meyer. I think Slive is far too arrogant to stoop so low as to scheme with a mere head coach. I believe Slive deals with the CEOs, Athletic Directors, University Presidents, and Network Presidents, so he thinks Meyer is far beneath him. Meyer is the hired help to Slive.
Now for the common thread. Meyer's actions are also due to his arrogance. He thinks he is above the other coaches in the league and should be able to get away with things the lowly Kiffins, Petrinos, and Mullens can't. Meyer reported his complaints through official channels after the game, as required by SEC rules. He didn't talk publicly immediately after the game about his complaints, per SEC rules. But he couldn't stop there.
In past years, head coaches have publicly commented that they complained to the SEC office about plays and officiating. That was "the way things were done". Meyer thinks he is entitled to continue to do things the old way and it's ok for him to publicly comment on officiating, as long as he privately reports the issue through channels first. Which is the "old school" way.
That makes him better than and above those "new coaches" who popped off about officiating in the post game press conference. He waits until his Tuesday press conference to break the rules, but that's ok, cause he's Urban Meyer and he's got equity around here.
JMHO.

It will be interesting to see what Slive does. It sure sets up a preceedent in the making for Kiffin.

Poley, Urban makes more than all of those you mentioned, including Slive. None of them make $8 million a year clear, why would Urban stoop to them?. I think this is all about recruiting.

I think you're on to something SW. However, I do think Poley has a point as well in regard to Whiner's arrogance in thinking that he's above the rules (and who could blame him given the way Slime has catered to UF?). Regardless, Slime is now in a corner of his own making. He has to do something to CUM or prove what everyone else is saying about his pro-UF bias. That would be a fatal mistake so he has to suspend CUM. Not fine him, suspend him. Sure, he can fine him as well if he wants to but he specifically said that such behavior would result in an immediate suspension.
Here's a wrinkle for your conspiracy theory - maybe the real reason why Slime ignored Johnson's comment at Vandy was to leave himself some wiggle room in case something like this happened. Maybe he'll now say that it would be unfair to suspend CUM when he didn't even reprimand Johnson. Instead he decides to revise his policy yet again and remove the suspension after one incident penalty (and he'll cite the fact that CLK has been guilty twice without a suspension) and issue a reprimand to CUM and a retroactive one to Johnson "just to make it fair". Slime really, really doesn't want to suspend CUM but unless he formally revokes the new rule then he has no choice. I'm predicting that he'll drop the new rule and he'll use Johnson to help him do that.
