I did not see in the article where Meyer had submitted any kind of complaint about the missed "gouging in the eyes."

Let's see if Slime comes running to protect his "buddy". He doesn't want Timmy injured now does he?
He's really put himself into a box here hasn't he?

Good. This will set the stage for upcoming complaints. If Meyer gets a handslap, it should mean free reign on refs for other coaches. All any coach would have to do is point to the handslap Slive gave Meyer depsite his "new" punishments for criticism of refs.
If Meyer gets a handslap, but following coaches get a suspension or heavy fine, it will be a field day in the press.

This just gets better and better. Slime has only himself to blame for this whole ridiculous mess. Whiner has violated the new policy, plain and simple. He added that he "has great respect" for the officials but he did so while criticizing them for missing a call, almost as a bit of sarcasm. Slime just got done telling everyone that such behavior would result in immediate suspension from here on out. No warnings, no reprimands, but out and out suspension. So what's he going to do about this? Nothing, that's what. And like you said just let him try to discipline anyone else afterwards. And of course what's Slime going to do about the underlying problem of horrible officiating? Again, nothing! He simply must be fired immediately.

And seems to react in anger, rather than act with planning and deliberation.
I think he got upset with Lane Kiffin and to a lesser degree Dan Mullen and felt like he needed to put that uppity new coach in his place, with his public statement about new penalties for criticizing officials.
I'm confident he expected the next violation to come from Kiffin, Mullen, or Petrino, one of the new coaches to whom he had publicly shown the back of his hand. But lo and behold, the next offender is his favorite defending National Champion head coach, from his leading football program, and regarding protecting his Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.
This might well be a justified public comment on officiating by a head coach. But Slive's previous public statements of zero tolerance has painted him into a corner regarding how he handles this situation. Now he either fines or suspends Coach Meyer, or he puts himself in the situation of proving that he is biased toward the top program in his conference.
Now, his credibility will be shot if he doesn't act against Meyer. This is why judges don't like mandatory/minimum prison sentences. Because it takes all latitude and judgement of the particulars of a situation out of the hands of the Judge. Only in this case, Slive as rule maker, handcuffed himself as judge.
If he was smart, he would have issued this zero tolerance memo confidentially. He wouldn't have alerted the media. So then if he broke his own rules, he wouldn't look like a piece of shit.
Slive is not impressing me at all. I think he lashed out cause he was pissed at being challenged. Now it's just backfired on his ass. I'm looking forward to how Slive gets out of this trap he created for himself.

and it is utter BS. With all of the media attention that have surrounded the slanted officiating, the noose was tightening on Slive, Foley and Meyer. How convenient it was to devise a "plan" that would seem as though Slive is cracking the whip on Meyer. He will suspend Meyer and he will come out and say "see, I have no bias." So Meyer gets suspended for a game and they fine him 50k...so, what. They play Vandy and he will make 8 times that amount in bonuses for going to the SECCG and a BCS bowl. This has shit smell all over it.

What about Bobby Johnson? His remarks were just as bad as any of the others.

CLK should just fire off a letter to the SEC Commissioner and copy every AD in the conference telling him to mete out the punishment or the complaining will begin in ernest with him as the first target.

I agree, Poley. If that letter to Kiff was the real McCoy, it struck me as strikingly amateurish, almost petulant.

CLK should call a press conference, stroll to the podium, and announce..."I called you here today to call attention to the fact that Commissioner Mike Slive sucks monkey balls. Vols, bitch!" And then exit to a standing O.
Janzen Jackson can then come to the podium and say "and if that cow-faced honkie beeyatch Slive suspends my coach, I'm gonna BAMF upside his face!"

I think I would delegate my criticism of officiating. I would pick an assistant coach and say, "Ok, this week your job is to comment on how bad the officiating was in last week's game, detail why we disagree with the calls, and put some pressure on the SEC office to correct and improve officiating".
Then the suspension will fall on less important coaches. And tell the coach that any fines encountered will be reimbursed double when raise time comes.
I wouldn't stop publicly addressing problems in the SEC office. I would just make sure that our most important game day coaches don't get suspended.
Oh, and no way Slive suspends CUM. He's gonna get a tiny slap on the wrist fine of maybe a couple of thousand dollars. And the reason will be, cause it's a first offense.

I actually think that Slive stated that if the HC or anyone on the staff complains about officiating, that the HC will be fined and/or suspended. I think this was a direct result of Kiffin being reprimanded and then Coach O stepping up and commenting. So good plan, but I think it won't work.

I'm so glad we have a FU coach now...
Kiffin responded -- tactfully -- to Meyer's comments following Wednesday's practice.
"Urban Meyer ... criticized the officials? That will be interesting to see," Kiffin said of what the league office's reaction might be.
But wasn't public criticism of officials supposed to cease?
"You guys got the same memo that I got," Kiffin told reporters.
Meyer commented on officials just a couple days after he announced a half-game suspension for his star linebacker, Brandon Spikes, who had tried to gouge the eyes of a Georgia player. Kiffin has viewed the tape of that play.
"Yea, I saw it on replay. It was pretty bad," Kiffin said. "But we are worried about our team and what we can control. We have a lot of work to do. Obviously, Urban will discipline his team. Or not."
