Was told Saturday night he was too loud and needed to sit down because he was being disrespectful to the opposing team and to Fulmer.

Could you imagine that. I would tell that blue hair to go fuck themselves.

yep...I'm listening right now.....

My old season tickets use to be around about a hundred of these kinds...looked like a AARP convention...they'd get pissed if you stood up....

Everyone is entitled to do what they want...to a degree;

cheer loud but also be considerate. If I have my 4 year old son with me, I don't appreciate some punk telling me to "stand the fuck up and yell". Shut up and leave everyone else alone. My kid is kind of shy and I really didn't appreciate this guy's attitude. I promptly told him to leave me the fuck alone else his braces would be on the outside of his lips rather than inside.

Again, cheer, be loud but be considerate. And if your drunk, definitely leave me the fuck alone or I'll drop you in a heartbeat.

It's a 'teen superfan' thang. See this junk every season on message boards, but I've been attending since 1966 and have yet to have someone tell me to sit, be quiet or even witness such a thing. Just kids mouthing off trying to look like a superior fan. Much ado about nothing.

I have to agree with these points.
I have been on that side of youthful exuberance/obnoxious drunk where I didn't care how/what I did at a ballgame. I know where some of these young guys are coming from in just having a great time being loud and cheering the Vols on to a win and cussing the blue hairs for sitting on their hands. I'm all for having fun in a game being loud as hell but respectful to those around you.
But there comes a time, like many of us have, when you are at a game where you have dedicated your time with your family and want to enjoy the experience of being at the game cheering your team and not be hassled by some young, drunk ass who could care less if he/she is being loud/cussing/obnoxious because others aren't being as young/drunk/obnoxious as they are. If it comes to the point where it is embarassing to your children and to me then it becomes a problem for everyone because I'm going to put a boot in an ass as soon as my family is out of harm's way.
Have fun, be loud, cheer the Vols to victory, but don't piss everyone else off around you because you "think" they aren't being loud or vociferous enough.

From what I gather from the story all he was doing was standing and cheering. I don't know why you would assume he was being drunk, obnoxious or annoying.

I myself don't drink and don't cuss much outside of my home especially not loudly enough where others can be offended. But during a Memphis game here in Memphis I was told several times by blue hairs to sit down. I was the only guy in orange in the section but they even grabbed my friends jacket and tried to yank him down. He was a Memphis fan mind you. We tried to be respectful of them being older but being asked to sit down when your team scores a TD and makes a big play is ridiculous.

100% agree. When I get to the point that other people simply having the audacity to stand and cheer at a football game ruins my life, I will stay home. To everything there is a time and a season.

To be clear, I was not talking about post touchdown but the whole damn game. It wouldn't have been so bad but I can't fucking stand it when people keep asking me to do something I don't want to do. Take the first "no" I give you, turn around and get the fuck out of my face. Being persistent to me in this situation is only going to end up bad for the other person.

Trust me, I'm one of the first on my feet when something good or big happens to the Vols.

eh, it just pisses me off when people say/do stupid things when kids/toddlers are around. Do they not think or just have rocks in their head?

If you have a kid, you probably understand what I'm talking about.

Now, turn around and leave me the hell alone:biggrin:

That is a complete different story than being an asshole in a section. That is what I was referring - and No, I don't know if this Alex was being that or not, just sayin that this type of attitude is what I have a problem with.
Absolutely every fan should cheer their team on when anything good happens but not go overboard around kids like I've seen some shitheads do.

I'm a huge fan of Tony's show, but this Alex guy is pretty much a tool. Earlier in the year after the UCLA and Auburn games he went on like a week rant about he didn't really care about this year's team he was just going to concentrate on recruiting as this year was over. Well, JC makes his miraculous turnaround and now Alex is a superfan. Also, after the Aubarn and UCLA games he basically trash anything about the UT gameday. EVERY UT fan is dumb, the stadium isn't loud, and he still goes off about the food. Yeah I don't really like that a big company like Sodexo does our food now, but frankly its about the same as it has always been. The Petro's are good, the smoky dogs taste just like they always have (good but not gormet or anything). He was complaining about the sodas were too watered down. Basically this kid is one of those guys who just bitches and moans no matter whats going on. Also, he just repeats whatever Tony says/thinks/feels. Tony, bring back Beano!

About other fans. Generally, my experience with Vol fans at games has been almost 100% positive. I've never been told to sit down or told to stand up. And I"ve met a lot of very nice people who enjoyed supporting the Vols.

Fans of other teams are a different story. Back in 1998 or 1999, I went to the UT-USCe game in Columbia and sat in the upper deck in a USC section, with about a dozen other Vol fans. That was the game that Tee Martin set the NCAA record for consecutive completions.

Well someone in our crowd noticed in the first half that Tee hadn't had an incompletion yet. At halftime, we got the passing stats and in the second half, each time he completed another pass, we started counting out how many that was in a row.

By the 4th quarter, almost all the Gamecock fans were gone from our section. And we were still counting completions and having a great time, watching the Vols kick the Cock's asses. Then some guy sitting about 4 rows below us started cussing us. I learned all kinds of new words. Then his 12 year old son joined in cussing us as well. Both were red faced angry and it really surprised us. He said he had heard about all he could take from us and told us to STFU.

Well, one of the wits in our group congratulated him on teaching his kid how not to act in public, and called him "Father of the Year". Which caused all of us to laugh our asses off. At that point we outnumbered the Cock fans near us, so we didn't care what we said. But it showed me how very angry some people can get from the cheering of fans of the other team. I've tried to tone it down a bit at away games after that, especially when we are winning big.

Getting a little older helps as well.

I think that game was the last away game I attended where we just crushed the opponent.

I sure didn't say much after (or during) the 2001 SECCG in Atlanta.

The "Father of the Year" comment in USCe was one of those priceless moments in life.

we've got a few of those in the horseshoe if youre in the AA or A deck down in the $ seats. Ive been asked to sit twice, both times by people 50+ yrs old, and both times I politely told them it wasnt happening and if they didnt like it, stay home and sit on your couch. you dont like that? go find an usher, I didn't pay 1K for a pair of tix to sit on my ass.

I used to have season tickets in HH from 80-95, we had the coolest fans around us, very knowledgeable and fun to watch a game with. Well then, things changed and it became the same, irritating crowd many of you mention. Now I did screw up at the 99 Memphis game, I drank numerous Long Island Tea's at O'Charleys and was totaly shit faced for the game. I got thrown out in the 3rd qtr and I deserved it. I agree with the people who say you don't need to be cussing out loud, I tried to quit but couldn't.

Yeah Alex knows X because of Tony. Here is the bitch pecking order, Alex is Tony's bitch, you are Alex's bitch. Alex doesn't know shit that he doesn't get from Tony. He is not an insider he just got lucky that Tony lets him come on the radio. Now, spit out Alex's cum and brush your tooth, Bammer.
