View Full Version : "I did in fact leave Neyland on Saturday night and unless a dramatic change occurs

... I don't see me going back"

Wow. I mean....WOW. I just can't think of another word. I'm stumped.

To go back to Neyland when 26 kids are being arrested. To go back to Neyland after 25k Bama fans are singing at the end of a whitewash against our Vols. To go back to Neyland after losing to Wyoming. But to all of a sudden not go back because of a freaking jersey??

I get that some people don't like the black jerseys. That's fine. Don't like 'em. I don't like a lot of the fans we have in our stadium. But I'm still going back to watch our boys play.

This is fine.. Just like it was time for fresh blood in the coaching staff, it is also time for some fresh blood in the stands. I just wish the AD would realize they are pricing the tickets right out of the hands of the fans who would make that stadium rock every Saturday!

This is a good thing. Our fanbase needs a good culling and it appears Kiffin/Hamilton are up to the task.

I got it from the RTN premium board. I guess his name is "Sam" and he got his feelings hurt when someone disagreed. I asked him the same questions I posed above in a very civil manner and my post was deleted. Guess you can only have the opinion of the "friends" on that board.

What a relief it must be to the phillipinoes to finally find an excuse to stop supporting the program. Poor coaching? No. Poor play leading to blowouts like last year? No. Any way to legitimately castigate Hamilton for making a mistake firing their hero? No, the soundness of that decision is beyond question now. They could find no substantive reason to justify leaving and if they had done so it would only prove their true loyalties were in fact to fulmer and not the university.

But finally they have found their reason. It has nothing to do with their worship of clappy as they are true fans of the university and it's traditions. But such a travesty as black jerseys on halloween has left them no alternative but to take their stand. Bullshit!

These assholes are just as much a cancer to the program as was their idol. It is beyond time to excise them from the program. If only they would all forfiet their season tickets and never cheer for the Vols again.

I was at the So.Car game. That and the UCLA game are the first I've been to since '01. Prior to that I didn't miss a home game between '82 and '96 and attended more sporadically between '97 and '01 when I lived out of state.

I didn't attend in recent years because I was just sick and tired of Fulmer ball. All that said, I was disappointed in the noise level. For 100k fans it's not all that loud...not like I remember. Also, it seemed like about a third of the fans began filtering out after halftime. That disappointed me the most. That game was by no means wrapped up. I wasn't comfortable until that field goal was kicked in the waning minutes.

So screw these Fulmeristas who just come to tailgate and watch the Vol Walk. As my Dad said (he's 75 btw), "I don't care if they wear polka dots as long as they play like they've been playing the last few weeks!"

The dumbest fan base in America.

That sums it up in one simple statement. Any fan base that supported Phildo for the last decade is the worst of the worst. I still contend that UF, UGA, AL, LSU, and AU would not stand for the excuses, good ole boy coaches, poor recruiting, blaming players for loses, back room politics with BOT members, multiple losses to the other Big 6 teams in the SEC, etc that UT fans put up with (and seemed content with) Philapotamous. Backwoods inbreds with "mountain values" of "if ye ain't one of us den you be agin' us" mentality. Tailgating is MUCH more important to these fools than the actual game itself.

I wonder how much wailing there was when the team switched from black jerseys to orange and white in 1922. Or when a blue tick coonhound was named the mascot in '53. Or when the power 'T' was put on the helmets in '64.

How many fans left in disgust in '64 never to return saying, "If the single wing was good enough for the General it's good enough for me!!!"

your spot on. Probably some did leave when Dickey went away from the single wing. I think this will always happen when 100,000 people get together....all sorts of age groups and experiences and different perspectives.

Change is tough for lots of folks and they do leave for various reasons. No biggie, just like the one time black was no biggie. As long as the product continues to improve, they will return or others will take their place.

These are not University of Tennessee fans. They are University of Fulmer fans. Last year when we were advocating/hoping for change, we were ok with losses because it was short term pain for UT for a better cause in the future. I am not completely on board with the black unis but ultimately I care about UT and its future success. It would be very hard to argue that this promotional did anything but massively bolster the image and promotion of our university.

Just as Lane culled players who were not on board, we will cull fans too.

Honestly, I was put out with Fulmer during the transition from Majors. But I reconnected pretty damn fast when Peyton was a frosh in 1994.

These emotional clowns will be back in two years at the SECC game in Atlanta.

BTW, I digress, but can anyone actually imagine Lane claiming a victory for a SECE title. What a freakin' joke Phildo was in the end.....

here regularly grab comments from other boards and use them to start threads here basically aimed at heaping scorn on the lame poster from the other board. I mean, yea, there are multiple UT boards and people say all kinds of things on them, and plucking certain comments from them for this board, so that we can all say: "Can you believe that IDIOT?"...well, it's rather pointless, I think. :alc:

It was cold and rainy. That might help explain the people who left early. It will take awhile for the damage Fulmer did to be overcome. As someone said here recently, the stink of Fulmer still lingers. We've opened all the doors and windows and sprayed air freshener all around but it will take awhile for that stink to drift away. It won't be much longer before the old home field advantage will return. What's cool is to think about how it will affect the team and the staff once it does. They talk now as if Neyland is a great, loud place to play. They have no idea of how great it could be. Think back to the 90s when that place rocked like no place else on earth. It's going to be like that again before you know it.

It would be nice if we could purify the fan base but alas there are too many knuckledraggers and inbreds to fill up the stadium without a good number of them.

Hopefully its a generational thing and they'll eventually die off.

The other thing is most of the people in that stadium have never been anywhere except east tenn, myrtle beach, or NASCAR races. Too damn provincial and think the universe revolves around Knoxville. When that's the case you're going to have people with these ultra conservative/traditional attitudes.

Here is a news flash for NYC...A dramatic change has occured. The team is playing at a much higher level with more fire and intensity than we have seen in a long time. The players are being taught, not coached down, when mistakes are made. Kiffin has the respect of his players who go to class, stay out of trouble and have good GPA's. He has also probably instilled a little fear in them because he is a no-bullshit kind of guy. They know he won't throw them under the bus like Clappy McFatass did.

So NYC you are welcome to leave and not return, take some of your like minded accomplices with you, frees up a few more season tickets for real VOL fans.

I'll go a step further and say we have the stupidest, most self-entitled, fattest, holier-than-thou unknowledgable redneck fans in America.

If you put all the fans at a NASCAR event in a head-to-head contest vs. fans in Neyland, it'd be a two-way tie for last.

He is, in fact, quoting sdevowell, one of the senior members of the Rocky Top News knitting circle and cider sippin' circle jerk. I thought the highlight question revolved around the fact that this man, sde (Sam, Sam, I am) did not get riled up and announce he would not return to Neyland after numerous arrests, poor play on the field, vicious beatdowns at the hands of major rivals, players flunking out and excuses on a weekly basis from the hefty head coach. But now, a jersey drives him away. Good riddance.

I love this!!!

"I was disappointed in myself, because I didn't think I called a very good game," Kiffin said. "I think I let the rain get to me and got out of our game plan. I got conservative and didn't attack them enough, because I was worried about ball security and having turnovers. I was just a little bit down after the game, because I thought that especially in front of a national audience, we could have performed better and done better things so the game wasn't even close at all.

"I want to make sure that our players know we expect to win by 19, 20 points when we're at home and a Top 25 team comes in. I had to remind them that we've got high standards, and we have a long ways to go."

...I said way back in the spring that just because Kiffin does something Fulmer didn't, or wouldn't, do, doesn't mean we all have to like it. Too much black and white in that thought process.

I hate the black jerseys too...but not as much as I hate what Fulmer did to UT's program. I've said more than a thousand times that I also hate the orange pants, particularly at home with orange jerseys, but the team that wears them (hideous as they are) is still the team to root for.
