summer before the 2008 season..I read an article about Clawson going through the UT playbook trying to find plays similar to his.

I'm thinking, "why? You bring him in to run the offense, let him run his offense...let him run his plays."

What Clawson will do in his career will just be another indictment of Fulmer and how he lost control of the program (in many, many ways). Fulmer got his title....then just coasted, happy to do well enough.

True....Fulmer micro-managed and never bought into what Clawson could, and wanted, to do. It's just amazing/mind-boggling that he'd go out and get a highly respected, successful, young up-and-comer...only to bring him in and tell him "here's what I want you to do and how I want it done."

It's similar to Tubby at Auburn, in that, if the head coach doesn't buy in and give the Co-ordinator control....it will filter over to the other coaches, then to the players. ....then you got chaos with everyone doubting everyone else and pulling in different directions.

I, for one, will be a big Clawson fan from here on out. Quite simply, he (like Malzhan at Arky) got sold a bill of goods.

I know a few guys that played for the clawdaddy back during his Villanova days. To a man they describe him as a detail obsessed no-nonsense prick, but a fantastic coach. Not only did Phats not let him run his O, he wouldn't even let Clawson play the "heavy" (no pun intended). I'm glad most saw right through things and it took him about 72 hours to get a head gig, while the large one is still "weighing his options" a year later.

Fulmer was only interested in the money & a reserved table at dunkin donuts.
