Below are some notable SEC coaches and their signature first year wins

Nick Saban@LSU - 2000 vs. Tennessee
Mark Richt - 2001 vs. Tennessee
Ron Zook - 2002 vs. Tennessee
Urban Meyer - 2005 vs. Tennessee, UGA, FSU
Steve Spurrier@So. Car - 2005 vs. Tennessee & UF
Les Miles - 2005 vs. UF, Auburn, Miami
Nick Saban@Bammer - 2007 vs. Tennessee
add in
Cheeseburger Charlie - 2005 vs. Tennessee

Below are some "not so notable" SEC coaches and their signature first year wins

Rich Brooks - none
Sly Croom - none
Ed Orgeron - none
Bobby Johnson - none
Mike Shula - none

I used the past decade as a time frame.

My question is, what will CLK's signature first year win be? The "signature" games left on the schedule are UGA, bammer, South Carolina (arguable), and Ole Miss (also arguable).

It can be argued that the "notable coaches" received a loaded team to begin their respective tenures as SEC coaches... it can also be argued that there hasnt been an SEC coach to build a team to a championship level from dirt level in the past decade. CLK will def need to break this mold, but he has an uphill battle ahead of him.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add in a NONE option. Feel free to pipe in.

I hope it never comes to the point where a victory over an SOS-led South Carolina team is considered a signature victory. We will have sunk to a low I didn't think was possible if that's the case. Same thing goes for Ole Miss regardless of who's coaching them. I do think it's possible to have a signature victory over USC with some other coach there because I believe it's possible with their fan support and home-grown talent for them to theoretically be a good program. So if, say, Nick Saban were coaching USC it's within the realm of possibility for them to be quite good and highly-ranked. Ole Miss...I just can't see them ever accomplishing much. Once in awhile, sure; become a real power, no.

I tried to stay out of the nineties, but off the top of my head Tommy Tubberville is the last SEC coach to rebuild a program to championship level from doodoo level.

I agree, your points are well made.

That's why I left Vandy and Kentucky off the list. I just think OM and SC are long shots and that's the only reason they are in the poll.

Someday USCe will be a major success. Not with SOS winding down his career but there's a reason why so many coaches who have had great success have agreed to coach there. They all thought that the ingredients to win there were mostly in place. How many coaches who have won NCs elsewhere have later coached at USCe? I wonder if USCe leads the nation in hiring former NC coaches.

Was Cheeseburger Charlies signature win of '05 really against us? That's pretty bad.

haha no. Just felt like adding it. His signature win was probably a last second loss to USC.

Looking at this rationally, it almost has to be Georgia. Joe Cox is a very streaky quarterback. He looked awful in the first half against LSU when you know who was playing his typical first half, aggressive defense. I think Monte goes to the blitz here for two reasons, one to rattle Cox and the other in order cut down the time AJ Greene has to get open.
Secondly, Willie "Hot Tamale" Martinez can be out schemed if an offense attacks him on the edges. Georgia is suseptible to the big play if you can get past its front four. As a group, I believe they have the best defensive tackles in the SEC, except for maybe Bammer.
One might argue that Cox is as good as Stephen Garcia, but I would diagree. Garcia can beat you with his feet as well as his arm. That would mean that all those other three teams, SC, Bama and Ole Piss, have a better QB than Georgia and I think they all, including SC, have a better defense than Georgia.

If not Georgia, won't get one this year

Right now the signature win is Ohio.

I would like to think we get a better one but if we play like we have thus far it won't happen. We look more like a 4 win team than a 6 win team right now.

Lane has to find some way to score some points and move the ball.

He also has to avoid losing the team... especially if we go 0 for October.

The only descent team Ole Miss has played, USC, they lost.

Snead is really not having a great year.

PASSING Cmp Att Pct Yds Yd/A TD Int Rating
Jevan Snead 54 105 51.4 728 6.9 9 5 128.4

I think UT has a good enough defense to hold them to a low score, and may be able to score enough points to win that one.

Ole Miss is the most overrated team since UT 2002.

Georgia

I feel like the Vols defense can match-up with any team that plays a pro-style offense. It does not hurt that Willie Martinez is their defensive coordinator and they are the one team with marquee value that some of the players have had success against.

I dont think you can call any win this year a signature win. I'd say Florida next year in our house will be Kiffin's signature win...with Tyler Bray a true freshman...leading the true Kiffin offense.

Naught. I believe even Kentucky may have their way with us this year. We have reached so many new all time lows I am just concentrating on recruiting to bring us back.
