“If I was ever in trouble with my mom, he’d come up with this super-sweet expression on his face and say, ‘Mom, can I get you anything?’ Then he’d look at me like the Cheshire Cat.”

I can see him doing that right now. I used to do that with my older brothers.

A few things that stood out to me in the article:

First, this quote by Jon Leverenz who was Kiffin's high school coach:

Still, for every criticism Leverenz has of Kiffin, there is a compliment to match. Leverenz said it was amazing how much Kiffin’s teammates hung on his every word and listened to his advice during games. He called Kiffin “personable” and “extremely likeable,” noting that, as a high school senior, Kiffin introduced Leverenz to his future wife.

Really? I thought he met Layla about 10 years ago in the Tampa Bay football complex where she worked. Matter of fact, several paragraphs later in the same article, it said as much...

And then we have this little nugget... So much for the secret squirrel theory we've been force fed about Hamilton sneaking around...

On the final day of November, an SUV pulled up in front of Gus’s Good Times Deli on Tennessee’s campus, and in walked Lane Kiffin and a handful of friends. Turns out Kiffin had interviewed for the head coaching job that day. Now it was time for one of Gus’s famous steamed sandwiches – to go.

“He didn’t say much,” said Aaron Hale, who was working behind the counter. “But while he waited, he walked around and looked at all the pictures of former Tennessee players on our wall. You could tell he was really interested, really into it.”

Well shit... So much for the theory of sneaking from hotel room to hotel room interviewing for the job.. So much for the flying around the country and leaving the UT briefcase at home so Hamilton didn't get recognized... Hellfire.. Kiffin drove to Knoxville in an SUV and went to eat right on campus after the interview.. I'll be damned..

And the running around for meeting happened earlier .... it states he was announced the next day, he was hired or finished the contract at that point.

I kinda miss the days of smuggling Black Label beer from Gus's back up to the dorm and chugging a few just to get past the taste, those were the days too broke to care and too young to know any better.

I think these are misreads on both of the quotes. On the 1st one, I believe it's saying that Lane intoduced his coach to his coach's future wife, not Layla.

On the 2nd, recall that the press conference was 1 Dec. Nobody was being interviewed the day before the press conference. He was probably in town just to get ready for the presser.
