Florida is the #1 team in the nation. They are the defending MNC. They have one of the best QB's ever in college football. All the talk this week has been about Kiffin and his comments during the offseason. The spread is larger than Obama's deficit. Kiffin took over a team with little real talent. Berry aside most of our players are backups at other schools. Everyone in America is going to tune into the game to see what happens, including a ton of recruits. Recruits for this year and years to come. Most people expect Florida to win by 40 or more points. By no means is a "moral" victory a win, but this is set up PERFECTLY for our program. With our defensive staff, we can keep their scoring down. If we can get a break or 2 on offense then there is no reason that we don't keep the game resonable. If the final score is say 28-7 or 28-10, you better believe that Kiffin will point out that the mighty Gators with all the talent they have couldn't pull away from us. In 3-4 years this will be the game that was the turning point for our Program. In 1996 Florida beat us in Knoxville and the recruits at the game included a slew from Georgia that were told by the staff that was here at that time that we needed them to be able to beat the other team and win some championships. Those GA recruits came to UT and were a huge part of the MNC of 1998. This game sets up the same way for us. New exciting staff, 35 years of NFL experience, numerous MNC's, top position coaches. Recruits are going to tune in to see what happens and Kiffin will use this game the same way the prior staff used the 1996 game. "We need you to beat those guys". Like I said, "moral" victory, Florida HAS to win by 40 or there is something wrong with them. The spread is 30 and many talking heads are saying that the score will be whatever Meyer wants it to be. I just don't see that happening this year with our defense. If we keep it close we can use it as a springboard to where we want to go. And all that goes back to Kiffin and his plan when he got here to get UT into the national spotlight. Here it is and I think he capitalizes on it, prolly not a win on the scoreboard, but a huge win in recruiting, and that means better talent and more wins on the scoreboard!!

The biggest problem with our defense is our offense. If the offense gives them no help, as I expect, then they will buckle eventually and Meyer will have his 35 - 45 point victory.

If Florida doesn't cover then it is a victory of sorts for us. EVERYBODY and their brother knows Meyer wants to take Kiffin to the woodshed, if he can't manage to cover the spread then he fails, regardless of how big the spread is. I know some of you will shout me down for "loser talk" and speaking of moral victories, but considering our situation as opposed to Florida's the pressure is on them to deliver the woodshed asswhuppin. Don't get me wrong, I hate the fact that we are at this point, and no one would love to see us shock those fucks more than me, but thanks to our former staff, a moral victory is all we can realistically expect. Kiffin gave himself the chance to win even if he loses at his opening presser by antagonizing CUM knowing his proclivity to run it up on people who he has issues with, that was pretty slick.

You miss understood my post. Where we are right now is about the program and its future. The present is not very good. The prior staff left the cupboard bare. Kiffin knows this season is about national attention and recruiting. This was posted elsewhere on the board but here it is again.

If we can get a few more recuits this year we are looking at a top 3 class. I think that all the attention brought to the game by Kiffin's remarks just helps us. Recruits will be watching and seeing that they can help and help early. Playing time and a future in the NFL is what highschool kids these days want. We can now offer that in a big way. For UT this year and next, its about getting in the spotlight and headlines. Its about recruiting. When you are the top dog, recruits come, when you aren't you have to have a way to be recognized. Kiffin understands this to a T. Thats what the post was about. I think the Kiffin has put the program in a perfect spot for the game Saturday.

So what you are saying is Kiffin is managing the program, similar to a QB managing the game.
I agree. I don't think anyone on the staff is playing to lose by only so many points, because that would help recruiting, but I do think Kiffin is recruiting while he is coaching and THOSE are two different things. MULTITASKING BABY.
The same people on here that say losing by less talk are the same ones that yell your stupid when anyone disagrees, this week has turned from DISCUSSION to whining about who knows more than the other by way of telling each other off in a sarcastic way. We should fark some bumper stickers of my comment is smarter than your 1st grade comment.
Oh and yes there are some that think that the number of posts mean they have a more value with their opinion as well, some have lurked for years reading this stuff, because for years it was great material to read and good insights.
