Crucial matchups

Tennessee center and guards vs. Brian Price and Reggie Carter—This very active defensive tackle and the veteran senior middle linebacker are the two primary run stoppers on the Bruin defense. Somebody had better get a hat on Carter or he will fill holes very quickly. Price may require a double team block when running plays are designed to be in his general vicinity.

Taylor Embree vs. Vol corners--- Embree is a big receiver at 6-3, 210. You just about have to figure that Chow will try to isolate Embree against Marsalous Johnson 5-9, 185. Of course, Eric Berry will be lurking, but Chow will attempt to “run him away” from the play with a crossing pattern or a tight end/fullback out in the route.

Chris Walker vs. Xavier Su’a Filo (6-4, 315)—The Bruins freshman left tackle will have his hands full with the fast and quick Walker on passing downs. Walker had one sack last week in about two and a half quarters of action. Anyone for a hat trick this Saturday?

Daniel Lincoln vs. Kai Forbath—Two of the top kickers in college football square off here. A three for three day by either kicker gives his team a much better opportunity to grab the W.

Monte Kiffin vs. Norm Chow (Kevin Prince)--- The UCLA freshman quarterback will be making only his second collegiate start in front of a hostile crowd in Knoxville. Monte Kiffin wants to rattle him early with withering pressure, but Chow will probably counter with some quick three step drops and roll outs. Chow might also try to negate UT’s speed on defense with draw plays and quick screens. One of the premiere coaching matchups this season occurs in this contest.

Joker in the deck—Ed Orgeron does not like UCLA. He will have his defensive linemen wired up in a fit of frenzy on Saturday afternoon. The game could very well be decided here, Tennessee’s defensive front vs. the Bruins offensive line.

I agree with all of those except the kickers, unless Lincoln joins the Vols' FG block team.

Thats what it looks like to me Wagee, our D line vs their O line. Game is won in the trenches. All other areas look fairly equal, except for home field advantage. A lot of folks are betting on a big win saturday, I just don't think we're there yet. I see a 20-10 Vol victory.

It would appear that Lincoln has regained the form that made him a first team freshman All-American in 2007. He is actually being coached this year, what a concept!!!!

My point was more that the two kickers won't actually be going against one another on the field at the same time.

And I'm leaning toward picking the Vols.

NO disrespect to you Moorehouse, cause I've seen your posts on here. But what is up with all the people saying we might have a chance in this game?

Last year UT went to UCLA and should have come away with a 2 touchdown or better win. THE LOSS AT UCLA WAS THE COACHES FAULT!!!

I'll give UCLA a nod on Freshman talent. But its not like we have a bunch of slouches ourselves..

This team is not coached by P. Fulmer anymore. Thus we do not have to have a letdown game after a big win.

3 hour time difference.. It wears on a team, no matter who you are.

This team is going to win Saturday. Expect to win! Demand to win! We will win!! Tell the Fulmersexuals "there's no more room on the bandwagon, sorry" when you encounter them...

Great point Prof, they lose three hours coming our way and will have to be up and out of their hotel somewhere around 10:30 on Satee morning.

One other matchup I see that I think might favor the Vols:
Chris Scott vs. Korey Bosworth----- The Bosworth twins created havoc in the second half of the game last year. They are both very good pass rushers. However, I think if Tennessee runs right at Korey, the end, then I believe Scott might be able to root him out of the way. That 80 pound weight advantage for Scott will start to wear on Bosworth by the second half.

You nailed it. Look at the record for NFL teams on the West Coast when they have to travel 3 time zones to play a game. The Cardinals and the Chargers were the two premier Pacific Time Zone teams in the league last season and they went a combined 1-8 during the regular season when playing on the East Coast.

Good call on the time change ProfessorVol. I have made that trip coast to coast a bunch for work. Never a problem heading west, coming back east a big difference.:bouncy:
