High points
Been a long time since I've watched a UT game and seen that kind of INTENSITY. Coaches, players, everything they did, they were not fucking around.
Best performance by a UT offensive line in years. I saw HUGE holes, OLmen locked up on DLmen or LBs 10 yards downfield, just pure dominance. We won't be able to dominate like that against UF, UGA, Bamma, etc., but goddamn it's nice to see us go out and whip somebody's ass when we're supposed to.
I said it a couple weeks ago -- if JC comes out and plays lights out, Chaney, Kiffin and Reaves should be inducted into the CFB HoF. He didn't play perfect but I was in amazement that was the same player we saw last year. Unbelieveable.
Play calling was outstanding. I'm not sure we ran the same play twice all game long other than the inside zone plays. There was nothing I could predict about what we were going to do based on formations, motion, personnel, etc.
Red zone offense was unbelievably good. Again, very unpredictable. I thought I was watching one of Spurrier's offenses from the mid 90's. We made them defend the whole field, none of this automatic jumbo package once you get inside the 10 horseshit like we had to suffer through with Flummo. I counted several times we went to 5 W/O inside the 5. One time it forced a WKU T/O, then we came out in a different formation. Just can't say enough good things about it.
We did NOT let up when we put the 2's and 3's in on offense. Loved the throw Stephens made to Nuke. The thought of catching grief for throwing with a 50 pt lead never entered CLK's mind. He just doesn't give a fuck.
Freshmen everywhere. Nuke was the only one of the Fab 4 not to score.
Last but certainly not least, Monte sent blitzers on every 3rd and long, and even did it late in the 4th quarter with the scrubs in. No more lame ass play it safe defense on 3rd down, fuck you Chavis.
Individual performances
Marsalis Teague -- WOW. Hard to believe he never played WR before. Reminded me of Ced Wilson, except better. His technique was outstanding, very soft hands.
Crompton -- even though he still has an achilles heel -- getting balls deflected at the line, the touch he showed on the fades and the looking off of the safeties on a few throws, and a lot of very accurate throws offset that and then some.
Hardesty -- the coaches had been bragging on him and I think we see why. Loved the breakaway speed he showed, hadn't seen that from him since he's been here.
Brown --his 1st TD rum alone might have been the most impressive play of the game. Reminded me of Jamal Lewis on that one. I was disappointed he didn't house that one long run.
I was surprised by LaMarcus Thompson's play. That one tackle he made on the misdirection throw to back to the other side of the field was spectacular -- beat two blockers. He made a few others.
Although I didn't see him make any plays, Janzen Jackson passes the look test. I think he's your FS when we go to Gainesville.
So many guys made plays on defense it's hard to single out anyone else.
Lane Kiffin -- his demeanor and presence on the sideline was a HUGE breath of fresh air. That's the face on our program -- intense, perfection, never good enough, never quitting. I loved it!
Room for improvement
Don't know what happened in the 1st quarter, maybe some 1st game jitters. But obviously the ball security has to get better, and it did.
Kickoffs -- need to get more of them into the end zone.
Had a pretty big dropoff when the 2's came in on defense. Not sure there's much we can do about that other than get them more PT. Best example I can think of was Savion Frazier not getting to the ball when WKU got one of their 1st downs...looked slow and unaware that he was about to be blocked.
Nuke's ball security on punt catches. He looked uncomfortable on two of them.
Getting somebody behind the secondary for a TD. I think this will improve when Moore is full speed (was surprised that he played BTW).
Jury's still out
Special teams (punt & FG). What can you do when you don't have to punt or kick a FG?
How much of it was WKU being horrible, as compared to us being improved? Personally I think 80% of it was due to our improvement. Now I don't think we'll be able to do anything like that against 4 or 5 of our opponents, but shit, this is th ekind of game that used to piss us all fof royally where Flummo woyuuld get up 31-10, let offf the gas, and we'd have to hold on for dear life. That by itself shows immense improvement. Now, how will we play against much better athletes?
