Click on User CP in upper right part of the page. Then click on setting and options. Then click on edit avatar.

I must have done that 10 times and I get "Upload of file failed."

So WTF?

Hell, now it's showing an avatar after the failed message

OK so no where are all our smilies?

Today I learned that you cannot add similies during an edit.

You may edit "like" or "as" into any post. I'm not sure why you're having difficulties there.

Smileys on the other hand...:nono:

Your avatar is probably too large. I got the same message and had to shrink mine down. It can't be larger than 19.5 KB or 80 X 80 pixels. You can use Microsoft picture editor (part of Office) to resize. Photoshop CS is what I used by that's not free.

While I like this, it is very complicated. Terry will be one of the ones who are unable to cross the river.

Go to the old YUKU site and pull up one of your own messages with your avatar displayed. Right-click on your avatar and click on Save Image As... in the context menu. Save it somewhere on your local PC. Then go back to this forum's avatar specification page and tell it to use an image on your local machine. Choose the image you just saved (unless you choose otherwise it will probably be saved with a long, random series of letters as the filename). When I did that it complained that I had specified a GIF file with an improper extension. Sure enough, when I saved the image it saved it as a JPG file. I was able to merely rename the file to a name with a .GIF extension. I tried it again with this board and it worked.

Apparently when you upload an image to be used as an avatar with YUKU it's smart enough to automatically downgrade the image to make it fit as an avatar. Since that's already been done for you by YUKU then you might as well lift it from them and bring it over here.

By the same token if you wanted to create a new avatar from an image that's currently too big you could presumably go to YUKU and save it as an avatar and then lift it per the instructions above.
