Played Highland Park golf course in downtown Birmingham Al. on friday July 3rd with my son and brother...The course was in good shape and the greens were also.....After we paid and got to the 1st tee I found out that they do not allow golf carts off the cart paths.....the course was very crowded because of the holiday which made for a long-slow day....when you have to walk 60 yards from the cart path to the ball and then walk back it makes it slow as hell....Needless to say I will not go back there if they use the no carts rule.....I asked a marshall why they did this and his reply...its the rule...
Does this piss anybody else off like it does me???

newly sodded courses sometimes do this. IF you have had a lot of rain, there could be damage to the course. Other than that.....no good reason. The ranger who answered that way should be fired- you are the customer and deserve a respectful answer.

agree on that.....and this is an OLD well established golf course, no rain or wet fairways either.....JUST the RULE...

The simple solution is to play your ball a yard or so into the fairway on the golf cart side. Saves walking.

I walk and carry my bag if I can. I find it more enjoyable. Maybe I'm a purist.

i agree...there was a time I never road a cart...I walked and played better golf in those days......age catches up with you, so walking in 90 degree heat sometimes is not an option......My point is if I pay for a freaking cart I by-gosh should be able to use it...

Well, last Friday they told us 90 degrees only at Three Ridges. After watching the epic bounces on my first couple of tee shots, we decided we could have driven a tank on those fairways and not bent a blade of grass. Sooo, after that, the only thing that split the fairways was the cart.

we used to play Three Ridges on Friday before games and wave to Tony in the prison off of number three tee box.
