I'm thinking about getting an iPhone very soon, and have been looking at the apps available for it. Have any of you guys used a golf GPS app for the iPhone and if so, is it remotely close to any other GPS you've used on a course whether it was a SkyCaddie type or a GPS-equipped cart?
I'm likely never going to play enough to buy a SkyCaddie, so I'm just hoping that a cheaper app for the iPhone will be somewhat worthwhile.

I've been wondering the same thing, actually....especially after seeing this.

I got the viewTi, but I have not had a chance to use it yet. It cost me about $25. The biggest problem I have heard is the battery life (shich sucks on the iphone). I have bought a rechargeable portable battery for when I can use this app, but so far I have been to busy with my son's baseball and work to play more than a handful of times.

Cool stuff!! I never thought about using a phone GPS. I would like to read more experiences using this and want to know what you end up with Ryno, I'm considering this now myself.

Bang...I will now make it my personal mission to get out and use my GPS to let everyone know how it does. I don't know when though!

Well I finally played a round with the iphone GPS viewTi. I played at Eagles Landing in Seveirville (I took the family to the Wilderness of the Smokies Water Park). If you have not played this course before (and it was the first time I had played it) call first because they are doing a lot of construction and multiple holes were closed. It was also difficult to find my way around the course at times. The GPS was set to the old course and it took me a few holes to figure out exactly which hole I was on. When I was able to figure it out, the GPS was very accuarte to the center of the green. At the end of the round, the app quick working completey, but I think that was because I was on the Extended network as opposed to the 3G.

I was wondering if the construction work affected the course any, from the highway it looked like it. Thanks for the report, I would like to hear what you think after you use it on a course your familiar with.

GolfLogix.com: I threw my damned iphone away a few months ago and got a bb bold. I live this app. It is very accurate, has thousands of courses and will measure club distance, keep stats (fw hit, gir, putts, etc as well as handicap) and does not drain battery (at least on bb). It is available for iphone as well and is $39.99 / year.

Well I have had a busy summer and very little golf, but I played in a Scramble yesterday and one of my partners had the Bushnell laser lock to the flag range finder. We compared on every hole his distance to mine (with the viewTi you can move a red arrow to the approximate place on the green that the pin is located). My numbers were withing 3 yards on every hole. I was very impressed with it.
