Very interesting piece in Enigma, a weekly tabloid rag in Chattanooga, about the history of the restaurant at Lakeshore Resort in Chattanooga most recently known as Ari's. Guessing all the Chattanooga posters and those who have lived here know about this space, if not Ari's.
This is a beautiful area just down from the dam. The restaurant there has potential that is off the charts. The setting is upscale and the sweeping view of the lake is beautiful. If Calhoun's moved in there and did their thing, they would make a killing. But there have been a lot of small timers to occupy that space and it has not done well. It seems out of the way, but this hasn't hurt the new very popular Top of the Dock just down the street.
Anyhow, Ari's is no longer. It is now called Bart's Lakeshore. We were going to go to Ari's, but the place looked so dated, we decided to turn around. According to the article, Bart's has fixed the place up. Good luck to them.
What was interesting though was the history of this place. According to the article, the building dates back almost 50 years and during the '60s and '70s was popular with such celebs as Muhammad Ali, Marilyn Monroe, Ginger Rogers and Lucille Ball. The space was a private club until the early '70s.
This place could be a landmark restaurant for Chattanooga if done right. Judging by the name "Bart's Lakeshore," I have doubts about the newest incarnation of this place. But good luck to 'em anyhow and I hope I'm wrong.
