OK Chattanooga whats good these days

Comin up for pops birthday and the Strut. I need a Mexican joint to replace the dearly departed Padrino's, also anything else good. No Boathouse, Big River, or chains por favor. Dives prefered.

People here love the taqueria on Lee Hwy and Shallowford called Taco Roc. But there are no good Mexican restaurants per se in town IMO. Although, a lot of people here swear by a place called Azteca, which is located ironically in the Padrino's building.

Chattanooga is still Chattanooga. Not many great places. Just a handful of good ones. I like Biba's Italian in Hixson. Their marinara sauce is great. In the Publix complex.

Haven't been, but in Cleveland is a place called Cafe Roma that is getting rave reviews.

St. John's downtown is very good. The new Italian place opened by the same guy called Alleia, on Main Street by the Choo Choo, sucks.

This is why I say that Lupi's is the best restaurant in Chattanooga. By default. Plus it is great pizza.

There really aren't any good Mexican dives in Chatt.

These are decent:

Abeulo's at Hamilton Place (it's more like a PF Changs, chain/franchise type place)

and Monterrey is a family owned type place over on Signal Mtn Blvd by the Wal mart.
