Being from Memphis everybody here thinks they are experts on the stuff. I love it and have been to almost every BBQ joint in Memphis that has any worth to it. I like my pork pulled,no pun intended, with not alot of sauce and no slaw. Kinda like the pet peeves most places try to cover up the crappy BBQ with to much sauce.

Corky's is by far the most overrated avg BBQ you can eat. The Dry rub ribs are good but not the greatest.

Rendezvous has pretty good ribs when you get a good slab. The rub is great and I love covering it in their sauce. Ther BBQ is not good at all. Great place for atmosphere.

Interstate BBQ is one of my favorite's. Not in the the greatest part of town but a great place to go for lunch. There pork sandwiches are great love their sauce and there spaghetti is quite delicious.

Gridley's to me growing up was the best BBQ place in Memphis. Great ribs, great sandwiches. But after the owner died has become just another avg place.

The Public Eye back in the day was amazing as well but seeing the last time I can remember eating there I was around 9 and it's closed I can't make any judgements.

Neely's is very good as well. Has become overrated due to media hype buy still not a bad choice.

Just wondering if anyone has anything to add.

IMO...the best ribs I ever ate in Memphis was a place called John Wells (I think).....I've heard that place is no more....I went by there where it was acouple of years ago and it was not there..

Gridley's....your right...at one time this was the best all around BBQ in memphis.....people from the Jackson area would drive to Memphis to eat there...they put one here in Jackson (in a bad spot at the time) and it stayed open maybe a year...as you said after the old man died it was not the same..

Corky's...way over-rated IMO....pretty good pulled bbq....but the ribs were not much....Corky's here closed down about 4 months ago....it had pretty good crowds so I dont know what happened...

Public Eye.....man i loved that place..hated to see it go...that area was hopping at one time...

Interstate....its good for sure....the first time I went they put too much sauce on the bbq and took away from the taste...since then I ask for my sauce on the side....

Rendezvous......Ok but not my favorite.....I want ribs that I need a shower after I eat....not much on dry ribs....

This one needs to get personal. I will award one of those green block award thingees to whoever gives the location of the picture shown below, but also describes their last meal there so as to discourage googlers.

Never ate there...never heard of it.......I lived in Florida for several years and me and my x-wife tried several bbq places within a 100 mile's of where we lived and they all SUCKED......they called BBQ, sliced pork roast with some crappie sauce on it......Had a good friend that his family had one of the best bbq places here in West TN.....he moved to Florida in the early 70's and stayed to the late 80's...he opened a good ole-fashion bbq joint down there and the people would not eat it...he said they wanted that sliced pork with crap for sauce.....he came back home around 1988 and opened a bbq joint and could not keep enough bbq, it sold out so fast.....funny how that works..

I like BBQ period, but if I am choosing, I'd rather have Tennessee or Kansas City styles than North Carolina BBQ, IMO.

Goldsboro. The holy grail of the Eastern NC style. Whole hog (80-150 150lb dressed weight hogs per DAY) oak (by the boxcar), vinegar, salt, red pepper flakes. 14 hours from east central Florida. About once a year a spell comes over me and I am there.

Hey TIG, do they serve coleslaw on their cue? Just curious. I happen to be a fan, but I know that everyone is not. However, I do agree with you 100% that BBQ in Florida sucks bigger ass than all the members of the white house press corp. combined.

Yeah yeah, thats right. I've been by there a few times but never stopped. I avoided eastern NC and that shit they call BBQ like the plague. The world capital of hog and turkey farming, and swamps.

Slaw on the sandwich. Thats why barbeque is a personal thing Gheng, although i feel you cannot dismiss this particular style till you hit Wilbers. Using the whole hog makes a huge difference.

Yeah I'm sure it does. My natural prejudice against NC que just wouldnt let me. I trust your opinion however, going over there to Raleigh next week....may make a side trip.

However, South Carolina BBQ should be as illegal as low fat mayonaise. How anybody can eat that shit is beyond me.

I go to Maurice's just for the KKK memorabilia.
