The best add-in for grits is used coffee grounds, best if transferred to the compost heap swiftly.

I hate grits.

That's just cause y'all have only gotten them at waffle house where there is nothing in them. Grits are tasteless and merely the textural vesicle for whatever you feel like adding. Which in my case is salt, butter, and cream and lots of them. I also enjoy that last doctored bite at the greasy spoon.....you know where I've opened one of those little half n half containers and poured it on along with adding a bunch of salt and two packets of butter.....but they only truly reach perfection when sopped up with the last bite of egg yolk from your fried eggs on your last bit of buttered toast. mmmmmmmmm

Aggghhhhhhhh! Garlic cheese, half and half, salt and pepper. Thats what grits need and thats it. Add hot sauce later.
