View Full Version : Best cooking shows?

What are everybody's favorite cooking shows of all time? I personally do not care for many of the current "rock star" cooking shows. I like the basics, done with the emphasis on the cooking.
My mom says the CIA shows were the best, but I never saw one. Detailed instructions, fundamentals. I loved Julia Child's shows. Even her more recent ones where she had famous chefs as guests doing the cooking were great. I also liked the Cookin' Cajun (Justin Wilson?). He was a character, but he could really cook. On one show he effortlessly made some great biscuits. My favorite, though, was Great Chefs. Usually, each show featured an appetizer, main course, and dessert. The narrator was a lady with a great Southern accent.
Of the newer shows, Alton Brown is probably my favorite. Paula Deen can be a little annoying, but we've made a few of her recipes and they are usually very good.
Any other good ones?

Guy Fieri has surprised me at how good he and his shows are. Especially the drive-in, diners show. And to think Giada was nit-picking at him not too long ago during the competition to win a show on the network. She's good, too.

Alton Brown is my favorite. I like learning the whys and whats behind it all, even if I don't retain any of it.

No Reservations isn't technically cooking, but it is the best food show on tv. Man versus food is entertaining. I do like the show cooking for real. I think she does a nice job of simple home cooking.

The original Iron Chef was great, new one sucks. Ming Tsai and Lydia Pastiche have got the best shows on now. I think they're on PBS or something. Alton is good too.

Oh the original Iron Chef WAS SOOOOOO Good. After I graduated from school the honey and I moved to Napa for awhile and we discovered it loooooong before food network. It came on some all Japanese channel out there. It was so awesome without the English dub. We didn't have a fucking clue what they were saying but the show was just killer. Man, the old chinese guy was brilliant.

I got a letter from Guy Fieri. HA, He wanted me to send money to ATO National Congress. He was evidently an ATO at UNLV in the early 90s and is a spokesperson for this funding drive. He enclosed some recipes that are served at his "restaurant"?? I did'nt even know he had a restaurant. I like his show on Food Network but I cannot eat 3/4 of the meals they prepare. Too much fat and salt for my doctors. dang it. :img59:
