Jolly Ox Mushrooms

Ingredients

3 packs button mushrooms
1 stick butter
1 vidalia onion minced fine
3 tbl minced garlic
4 cubes beef bouillon (Herb Ox or Maggi only)
1 tbl Lea and Perrin's
salt and lots of coarse ground pepper

Saute onions and garlic in butter, add mushrooms, salt and pepper, and stir frequently till covered in butter. Cover and let simmer on med-lo. when mushrooms start to settle, add boullion and Worcestershire. Simmer for 1 1/2 - 2 hours until dark and most of liquid has been absorbed by the mushrooms. Try not to polish off the entire pot before they're done.

For an alternative: add 1/2 cup red wine with the lea and perrins. Simmer uncovered an extra 1/2 hour.

That the ticket! I'm making some this weekend. Those things are the fucking bomb.

You can cut back on the bouillon if you dont like that much flavor, but the garlic is a necessity.

I tried that recipe when Ghenghis originally posted it a long time ago and it is a great recipe. I cooked the red wine version and used beef base instead of bullion and added Creole Seasoning to taste in place of the salt.

These sound good, but I can't eat anything with MSG in it as it makes my heart palpitate like a virgin undoin his first bra. So, can I substitute beef broth and reduce? Hmmm, I think I'm going to try a few different things with them for the Magic game tomorrow night. I'll let you know. Should be a fun experiment!

Get a can of double strength beef bouillon, that should do the trick.

Uh oh, another ad for Campbells Soup. haha Beef base would work better.

All boullion I've found has MSG.....we're going with the good stuff. Details to follow.
