This thing is truly unbelievable. I'm a gadget hound big time ... but this thing beats anything I've ever seen.

The Apps you can get for the thing take it to an entirely different level.

Go and get these now...

WunderRadio .. listen to just about anything from anywhere. Better than having a Tuner on the iPhone 'cause you can get the best FM AND AM stations from around the country. Search by location, show, genre of music or talk radio, sports .. it's got EVERYTHING. Well worth the 6 bucks it cost me. Works great on edge and 3G.

Pandora .. free. Custom radio stations by artist or genre. Cool interface. LOVE THIS THING.

MegaRock Pack .. Dozens Top 100 lists for different types of music that you can stream (randomly within each list ... you can't just pick the song you want). Has the top 100 songs from every year since 1950 also. Even has categories for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Really underrated app IMO ... like having 4000 of the best songs with you all the time. On the expensive side at 5 bucks ... but I'm really glad I got it anyway.

MobileFiles ... lets you take your files with you (via WiFi transfer). Reader for docs and pdfs and powerpoints. Reader and editor for xls spreadsheets.

MobileBanking .. do all you banking and bill pay right from your phone in this very clean app.

Pageonce .. organize ALL of your online accounts and get balance info and billing and payment info. I don't have an account out there that this thing couldn't access (actually .. it's kind of scary .. I may delete it .. but the web interface has a "nuke all" option if you lose your phone). FREE for the lite version which works fine for me.

slydial .. call someone and let it go direct to their voicemail. Sometimes I just don't feel like talking to anyone and just want to leave a message ya know. FREE

ManGo .. the best navigation type app I've downloaded. FREE.

Earthcomber .. the second best navigation app I've downloaded. Same concept but some different stuff. FREE.

UrbanSpoon .. good restaurant finder with the ability for the users to make recs. .. and it's just a cool concept and interface. FREE

USA today
Shazam
Tap Tap Revenge

TONS of cool stuff!

Anyone try the turn by turn (without voice) GPS app .. G-Map? I'm thinking about snagging that one as well and it's supposed to be the best one for the iphone .. but it's $20 (still cheap compared to a stand alone tom tom or spending $10 a month which is what many carriers charge you for their GPS service on the mobile phone)?

Thanks for the info on those apps. I am going to download some of them later today. Do you or anyone know what the best golf GPS type app is on the iphone? Check out sportacular for a good sports app. Easy to customize with your favorite teams.

When it's all said and done, may I ask the total cost of the phone plus downloads? Also, monthly cost?

Cant help with the phone costs/monthly costs (mine is a company phone, as far as I'm concerned it's free. My 'cost' was spending a couple months helping convince the guy with the checkbook that it was necessary). As far as that goes, ATT threw in a bunch of free iphones (refurbed 8gb model 3g's) and came up with a rate that did not meet our former T Mobile rate, but it was comparable.

As for the apps, it depends on the app. Many are free (I've yet to actually buy one), most are just a few bucks (1-5). Very few are more than a trivial cost (20 or more). They are all pretty much a la carte.

I love my Iphone. It makes waiting far less painful. I have a 16gb and I thinks it like $300 with the contract. I'm not sure how much the media package is. Like Zippy mine is a company phone. But seriously the Camera is pretty decent, you don't need an IPod, and it's a good phone. You can't get all 3 any where close for the same price. And you can check your facebook on it. The apps are great ,new ones come out daily. Best phone by far.

Without the contract it's like $500-$600.

I bought one last week at AT$T for $299, monthly is 107- 200 texts(plenty for me), and loaded many of the apps. It even has a RepairPal that is free you can get- will give you the estimate of repairs on cars by location. Comes in handy for my sons car which seems to have an issue every month.
