Where do you think he's going?

Hopefully there's a good reason for this move.

I think Johnson is a fantastic coach. Given the restrictions Vandy faces, he gets more, pound for pound, out of that team than any coach in the country.

He's a class guy and a good coach. I hope that it's not due to health reasons.

Very odd for him to leave weeks before the season like this.

Hope he wasn't caught with red panties...or gold and black ones either.

My brother played under him.
Thinks Bobby Johnson is just one of the best all-around persons ever there was,
as well as a sensational coach.

Betcha he gets another job before Fulmer does.

sometimes I think some of you walk around with your mouth open in the rain -

"Vanderbilt football coach Bobby Johnson abruptly retired from coaching college football on Wednesday - less than two months before the season opener.

Johnson, at an early afternoon press conference, said it was for personal reasons.

He said he had discussed the decision with his wife, "and it's what we want to do with our life."

Johnson, 59, had a record of 29-66 in eight seasons at Vanderbilt.

He said the decision was not health related.

He said football "consumes your life" and he said, "I want to do some other things."

Johnson said he had no immediate plans. "Right now I don't have to be in a hurry," he said.

"Right now I hope something comes to me."

If you don't have an investment in a season where it means everything to you, then you shouldn't be there," Johnson said.

He said Vanderbilt had its best recruiting year since he had been at the school.

Johnson said he likely will retire to South Carolina near family.

Robbie Caldwell, Vanderbilt's offensive line coach, was named as his successor."

Caldwell is a tremendous coach and that's a great opportunity. I'll be curious to see how Vandy does under the new leadership.

Spurrier retiring, under the table deal in place for Johnson to take over for 2 years while younger Spurrier is groomed for the job.

I suspect he will be working again in a few months.
