Quotes from Coach Fulmer:

"I am very pleased with this class of new Volunteers. We addressed our needs for the most part and signed young men I believe will develop because of their character and work ethic. Certainly there are some that can and will impact our team immediately."

"The staff did a good job and our current players, serving as hosts, did a great job when we got prospects to campus. Everyone had to really fight hard, especially coming off a poor season. We all had to show the athletes and their families that Tennessee has been and always will be about winning championships and developing young men."

"As I say every year, the key factors in the success of this class will be not only their phsical ability but their ability to work hard, learn and respond to the demands of social adjustment, handling college academics and new challenges on the field of play."

"It will be a fun group of young men to coach and be around."

I have to defend Lee Smith. His father was a very close friend, and Lee isn't the monster he was painted to be.

Yes, Lee messed up and he knows he did. The thing with the assistant principal was never proved, and in fact, Lee has been told by several attorneys that he has grounds and the likelihood of a successful law suit, should he choose to go that route.

Lee was enrolled at UT in summer school, got stupid and was arrested for DUI. He was suspended from the team by Fulmer and given the option of either taking a redshirt and sitting out his first year at UT or taking his release. He chose the release, transferred to Marshall, and sat out the transfer year.

Since then, he has lettered for 3 years, starting at TE in Marshall's double TE offensive set the last two. He started opposite all C-USA TE Cody Slate, who was a third round draft pick this past April. With Slate gone on to pro ball Lee will move in to the featured TE role at Marshall this fall.

And, by the way, Lee is an honor student. His GPA is in the high 3s, and he is planning on going to law school when he graduates in December. He is married with a daughter, and life is good for him.

Getting away from Knoxville was the best thing for Lee. Some kids just need to get away from home to flourish. Lee was one of those kids.

...were bogus. Bogus bullshit. Pure petty school system politics. She hired Greg Isaacs and sued Knox County. All manner of dirty deeds and misconduct came to light during the discovery process of the litigation. The dirty deeds and misconduct were on the part of the school system...not the principal. The case was settled out of the court. Knox County paid for its bad behavior. The career of the assistant principal has been ruined.
