View Full Version : I am now hearing that the off duty cop went looking for trouble.......

Has had past "altercations" in uniform with some of the players present.
Knew they were there.
Provoked one or more into the whole thing.
Likely didn't expect all to jump in and beat the living daylights out of him.
This looks like racial profiling by an out of control "off duty" cop with an axe to grind.
Anyone else hearing anything remotely similar to the above???

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. If true, however, it's still the players fault for being out after midnight when they should have been at home studying/praying.

if BV's source is legit, my head will explode. Yeah, everyone will hate the cop in message board land but it would reveal a much bigger struggle in knoxville that UT and it's players can't and won't win against.

My understanding is that Marlon did not deliver the 1st blow. He was defending himself and had no idea the guy was KPD. Without video or unbiased witnesses, this is likely to turn into his word against the cop. Not a good situation.

If BV2's info is correct, the defense attorneys will have a field day if they can verify that this cop has been almost "stalking" the players. Still haven't heard a thing about the meeting this morning.

How is that not a good situation? I think it is. He said + she said= nothing. If this is true a lot of people will feel stupid.

1. The average person/juror tends to believe cops.
2. Cops lie (a) to protect themselves or (b) when they believe lying will achieve what they deem to be the just and proper result.
I don't have an agenda against law enforcement. That's just the way it is.
If a 20 year old kid (particularly non-white) says one thing in court and a cop says something else...forget reasonable doubt. The kid loses.
Most (but not all) judges tend to give police testimony "the benefit of the doubt."

Bingo! No way we want this to go to court. But I don't see at this point how it will not.

Granted, we do not know the details of the cops head injuries, but I would think there's a decent chance the fact that he had a brain injury could affect his ability to recall accurately what happened.

Think you can get 8 or 9 or 10 blacks seated on a jury in Knox County, Tennessee? The OJ verdict was all about race and nothing else. The LA cops were due some serious payback (in the eyes of black Los Angeles). Johnny Cochran made the trial about race. The prosecutors lost the case during voir dire.
If you want to make the argument that jurors don't believe cops, you've got to come up with something better than OJ.
One other thing. Of criminal cases that are tried by juries in Knox County, the conviction rate is over 90%.
Presumption of innocence? Yeah, right.
