Monday afternoon, I took my daughters out to the country club to go fishing. Since it was late, there were no golfers out and we pretty much had the run of the place. I figure that the best lure for them was a swim bait since there is really no wrong way to fish it. While my 13 year old has caught a few fish before, she had never caught a fish all by herself with no help from yours truly. That all changed pretty quickly yesterday and by the time we were done, she had caught several nice bass. Her little sister got pretty frustrated at first and even quit fishing after about 30 minutes of no success at the 1st pond we tried. I convinced her to try again when we moved to the main lake on the property and she was rewarded with a solid 2 pounder that was the big fish of the day. I was so busy watching them, that I missed most of the fish that hit my lure but I could care less. The joy I got from seeing them having fun beat the hell out of doing it myself. I can think of few things in this world that are more worthwhile than teaching a kid to fish.

We're getting my kids into fishing via the dock and cricket method. They toss it in, yank out a fish and get to immediately play with the crickets again. It's a double win.

We took my friends son fishing many years ago when he was just 5 or 6. Paid off big time. He now calls Turkey and keeps Beagles and helps pull the flat bottom boat into some good spots.
Now his girl is Killing Turkey, Deer and catching Bass and Crappie with us.
Oh yeah she won a beauty contest in her spare time.
VolDave that wouldnt have been Gtown CC would it?

I would love nothing more than to take my girls fishing. However, they can't stand worms, are scared of crickets and when I took them deep sea fishing in Destin over spring break, 2 of the 3 of them "chummed" for fish because the boat was rocking a little.
I think they may be a lost cause which makes me sad. Even if I took them fishing with a lure they would refuse to touch the fish they catch, which is part of the experience as far as I'm concerned.

Take them to Kentucky Lake and hire Steve McCaddams to take you crappie fishing. Steve will bait the hooks and remove the fish for you and they will catch so many fish that they will be hooked for life.
