What does "sideout " mean? Is it like icing in hockey?

Red and yellow cards. What do these mean? Do they get to keep them?

I got about 10 days to get up to speed on this stuff so any help will be appreciated.

Exactly. Thanks for your link but at 140 pages it's over my head.

EV always suspects the worse out of people so he's unwilling to help.I think he likes to keep things to his self so he will appear to be an expert.

I think I'll watch a couple of games and be back with more questions then.

In the mean time, I would like to know why the man who is dressed differently from the rest of his team is allowed to handle the ball and the rest are prohibited? In American football, as you know, anyone can touch the ball in most circumstances so what's the big deal here?

Always wanting to be helpful Oracle , the new world cup ball is bad for goalkeepers because it moves in ways a regular soccer ball would not , moving and dipping in mysterious ways , kind of like asking Peyton Manning to play with a Nerf ball in the super bowl .

I invited everyone in here so I will try to answer.
A sideout is just like basketball if the ball goes out of bounds, the other team throws it in from the side. Of course there is no icing in Soccer, but kinda like icing is offsides. That means your player has the ball passed to him, but he had run past the defensive players when it was passed to him.

yellow card for a hard foul. 2 yellow cards = red card = ejection and your team cannot replace you. red card for a blatent foul. red card and you're out for the next game too (but your team can start 11 players in the next game).

Goal tender = goal Keeper = goalie. I don't know why he is dressed different, maybe because he is the only one who can touch the ball with his hands. If he couldn't touch the ball with his hands, then the scores would be much higher of course.

the new world cup ball is bad for goalkeepers because it moves in ways a regular soccer ball would not , moving and dipping in mysterious ways And that is about all I can say about that. If you're interested, they have complained about the ball each World Cup since I started watching in '90. Either the players hated it or the goalies hated it. Never a "perfect" ball that everyone is happy with.

Hope I answered your questions correctly. If you have more, just ask. I did invite everybody on the board to come by, so keep coming by even if EV doesn't trust you.

Thank you Elcon, you have been most helpful unlike the fake fan who either won't explain anything or doesn't understand it himself.

Since it seems like most Americans don't care for soccer because there isn't enough scoring, taking the Goalie's handling priveleges away from him and using the new ball would be 2 ways of increasing the scoring. No? If more games ended up like 15-12 then it would be a hell of a lot more interesting.

You are a idiot if you think a 15-12 game would be more interesting , would a American football game be more interesting if one team won 120 to 118 ? :biglaugh:

Actually, as EV said it would not be as entertaining. Our HS team just beat a team 14-0. Very boring to say the least.

They object in soccer is creating mismatches all over the pitch either 2-1 or 3-1, 2-2 etc and getting a goal. Thus in soccer you have a lot of mini games within the larger game which is what becomes fun to watch. The games are free flowing, in the sense that, besides throw-ins,sideouts, goal kicks, fouls the game continues without stoppages.

The other thing I like about professional Soccer is promotion and relegation. This is the part that gets entertaining. It makes the whole season count and you have to play hard or you are sent to the lower league. Not just a playoff in which a team can get hot and make a run.

This should be used in the SEC...One way to get rid of Vandy!!!:alc:

Now that is the kind of rude response that I would expect from a Euro soccer fan. Your analogy is not a good one friend but if a high scoring game like that would be too much for you, how about an 8-7 or 9-8, something in that range?

WV, for new fans like myself to appreciate that part of the game would take time that I don't have since the games start in just over a week but thanks for the guidance.
