That was a fantastic read! Our scouting compares favorably with his scouting!!
To wit: If Tennessee doesn't have the best coaching staff in the country, then they are the second best. However, I still don't see this offense being productive based on what we all saw out of Jon Crompton last season.

It sounds like Cheney was a super hire if he stole the show over Monte.
I wonder if Tenn has a first year under the new staff kinda like Pearl did when he first came in. Same players, new staff, 180 degrees difference.

Wouldn't that be something?:crossfingers:

A year from now we're all going to be raving about Chaney. He is the hidden gem of this staff.

This is something that I preached about Fulmer even before he became head coach:
Chaney emphasized knowing the personality of the play-caller and team you are going up against. He said, "The only way to predict future behavior is past behavior." He said getting a feel for who a coach is, and not just in the football sense, can give you a huge edge on game day.
My college coaches would try hard not to get into a rut. They knew that opposing coaches tracked tendencies.
With today's film technology, opposing coaches can pull up tendencies of a coach by play, down, place on the field, and game situation in 2 seconds.
Fulmer always ran the same plays on the same place on the field, in the same situation, at the same time of the game, etc... and the opposing coaches stacked the box knowing that he would do so....and Fulmer knew that and still ran the same plays with limited success as the years crept up on him.
This is why Fulmer was fired. He failed because of his arrogance.

Why wouldn't a defensive coach be responsible for self scouting the offense, and vice versa? For instance, wouldn't the DL coach be placed to detect things like offensive linemen giving away the snap count or whether it's a run or pass?

cull some recruiting material out of this clinic, including this article. There were also some very complimentary things Tomlin said about the staff on film.

I think a very telling statement was made by CLK as reported on VQ. He hopes to get more area HS coaches involved so the staff can help improve HS play. These guys really get it. A poster over there said coach O gave the HS coaches his cell # and told them to call him anytime. Coach O also called attendees and thanked them for attending. Just imagine what the future of TN football is going to be like! The phillipinoes must be going nuts after years of arrogance and indifference their great leader showed Tn high school programs. I'm sure they think it's beneath the staff to stoop to such levels.

And The Philapotamous didn't give HS coaches their cell phone numbers and call them up to thank them for coming to the camp??? 3rd and Long Chavis was probably saying "what camp" when asked about such a thing!!!

The General's Maxims. the former HC would have told the coaches present all about the maxims of football.
This staff is all about the present and future; not the past.

yesterday and had attended some previous Flummo coaching clinics. He said it was a challenge to stay awake at Fulmer's clinics. No shit, I had trouble staying awake during the games!

Though I do have a great respect for the General. Unfortunately for Flummox you can "care" about the maxims all you want, but "caring" still ain't solved a problem no matter how much democrats try to convince you it's the biggest part of the solution.

Talked about yes.Lived by know.Bear Bryant brought the maxims to Bama.Ken Donahue was the Monty of his staff. You need to read them. They are the fundimentals of football spoken in the language of the 1940's.You guys need to read about the history.I bet CLK,CMK & staff know it better than most Vol fans. They are attention to detail coaches.Come on guys catch up.........grandpa

I'm sure that a graduate assistant or someone else in the football operations side of things sets up the computer to assist them in breaking down the film. Once the defensive side of the ball gets the film, the DC breaks it down and the other coaches are likely asked for their opinions and insights.

brass,
i didn't have a problem staying awake. it was the constant cussing that became a problem.
