Crap, this is hard TUX. How can I narrow all that good stuff onto one side?
Well, if I had to choose just 6, here goes:
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - The Allman Brothers - could have gone with something shorter like Melissa but hell, it's the Allman Brothers
2. Call On Me - Chicago (the song and album that got me hooked on music at an early age
3. Do You Feel Like We Do -Peter Frampton - the song that defined my high school years in more ways than one
4. Cliche - Todd Rundgren - may be an obscure cut to many unlike Hello It's Me or other hits - but it is one of my favorite TR tunes. A buddy from high school and college reminded me just yesterday that we saw TR & Utopia 30 years ago next week at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh.
5. Starship Trooper - Yes - huge fan of the progressive stuff like Yes, UK, early Genesis, Focus, etc...
6. Brother To Brother - Gino Vannelli - most amazing vocalist I have ever heard - hands down.
Cool game Tux!

Ok, I am cheating but I just could not mix rock and jazz. So, here is my (admittedly smooth jazz only) list for that genre:
1. Lovin' You - Spyro Gyra - these guys pretty much started the whole smooth jazz movement in the 70's
2. Breezin' - George Benson - another pioneer in the movement even though he caught a lot oa flack from the purists
3. Another Sun - Yutaka - now there's an obscure cut for you
4. The Lady Wants To Know - Michael Franks - as smooth as it gets
5. Savannah - Joyce Cooling - great guitar, great vocals and hot to boot
6. Rainforest - Paul Hardcastle - this guy is great at layering sounds
Just my :2:

You must mean doing the Butler if it was Freddy.
First real concert (that we had to drive a few hours to) I ever saw was Queen and Thin Lizzy in the early 70's. Dad drove a buddy and me to Cole Field House at the U of Md to see the show. Years later when Fred passed away dad noted that he must have blown one too many horns.
GREAT SHOW though and RIP Freddy and Phil Lynott.

Depending on how many we get, I will start playing a perfect album side once or twice a week until all are featured. Then we will start another concept.
Those of you who have not submitted one, should submit one. I have all of the current lists put to music in order, up to PB's list.

1. Yes - Gates of Delirium (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdZ06R9he0w&feature=related) - best recording is on a DVD, Yes - Symphonic Live. Not sure what CD recordings there are other than the original one on Relayer.
2. Camille Saint-Saens - Organ Symphony, Maestoso-Allegro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCKiZRWyv20&feature=related)the Munch recording though from the 50's is the best recording
3. Frank Sinatra - Fly me to the Moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEKvmbYwuk&feature=related) Live at the Sands is the best CD recording
4. Jordan Rudess - Dance on a Volcano (Genesis Cover) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgaqHY5vsgs) - from The Road Home
5. Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3H1XDswBBA) - from Blow by Blow
6. Jordan Rudess - Tarkus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRCf77WvRmQ&feature=related) - from The Road Home
Couple of bonus tracks:
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Carl Palmer Band - The Barbarian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVyVWDGNzoI)
FYI, the CPB track of the Barbarian is actually a transcription of a piano piece composed by Bela Bartok that he named Allegro Barbaro, since he had been called a barbarian in the French press. Nice sense of humor.
I was fortunate enough to get to see the Orchestre Nationale de France perform the Saint Saens symphony about 20 years ago. It's pure aural sex when heard live with a full orchestra and pipe organ.
Finally, the Rudess album the two tracks above are from is outstanding. Anyone who's a fan of Dream Theater will be familiar with him. The album (The Road Home) features covers of mostly 70's prog classics, but played and recorded with today's technology.

The second side of your album is better than the first :) Though if I had to pick a song from Alligator I think I'd go with Karen or Abel. I love it when Matt screams in Abel. His voice can get so monotonous and depressing and the whole "my mind's not right" thing is great in that song. But the backing vocals are superb in Secret Meeting too. Oh hell, Alligator may just be close to the perfect album, so there's been no use in us really trying.

My musical taste is quite different than most of you, but I really like eclectic people. I sincerely hope y'all will post more of your choices in the coming weeks as Tux has promised us genres (any Krautrock fans?). You really can learn so much about a person through their auditory canal. Music encompasses every mood and emotion, from love to loneliness. I can personally attest to how music can even be used to speak for you when you have no voice. Sometimes it's even used as a WMD by people who claim pacifist ideolatry. I've always loved music, but it's taken on a new significance in my life over the past 3 years or so. I can't say it's always been good to me, but it's always pleasurable if that makes sense. If you can't live your dreams in life you can through music. I'm not going to go into why these playlists mean so much to me right now, but they do. Thanks Tux.

Portishead fans??? Wow, I thought I would be the only one to mention them. Most people I know think I'm talking about a fish when I mention Portishead.
I need a little while to sort this list out......

Hey Deeb, does that mean you like another great trip hop band: Massive Attack?
Trip hop = <3
and Beth from Portishead's voice is just so amazingly sad. It just fits the songs so well. They're a wonderful wonderful band. Espescially when you're depressed. They make you feel like you're not alone. I love love love Portishead. I have all their albums. If anybody wants/needs any of them pm me.

I do enjoy some of what I've heard from Massive Attack.
What did you think of Portishead's latest cd? I love their 1st two, and the live in Roseland is pretty good as well, but I was kinda dissapointed in their latest. Maybe I just need to listen to it a few more times.
