Look at it this way: smitty loves the attention. Any kind of attention. You can call him every name in the book just as long as you pay attention to him. To block him is to ignore him. From his perspective that is far worse than the foulest name you could ever come up with. He can live with insults; being ignored is worse than death itself for a guy like smitty. If you really want to hurt him, ignore him. To ignore him, just block him.
