around Dekle Beach and Keaton Beach.....we went there a few years back and it was pretty much just a fishing area....kinda like the Destin area was 30-40 years ago....man these places were OLD Florida...no devlopment..just fishing communities....both areas are noted for the best scallop fishing in the state of Florida...

I have always been intrigued by that area but have never visited. St. Marks is the farrest point East that I have ventured from St. George along 98. Do you have to have a boat to fish or can you access some places in the surf? I was told there was very little sand beach around that area. The photos look a lot like Alligator Point or Carrabelle.

I love off the beaten path places.

It is the off the beaten place for sure...its almost like being on a different planet in that area...you are right there is no beach...its water to marsh to land..need a boat for sure..they have guides and boats to rent...cabins to stay in etc...you are pretty much 25 miles from human life as we know it...I will say this about the place..one of the best sunsets I've ever seen....absolutely nothing in the way to block your view...If you can imagine standing on the edge of the earth...thats the place....oddiest place I've ever been in the U.S.

I used to work with a lady that lived in that area in some little town a few miles from the coast for a while and heard her talk about Steinahatchee and some other places around there. I think I would like those places.

hey Stoli...if you like those kind of places you need to check it out....You can go to Keaton Beach on the internet and get some info....they have a marina there...small one...but its the main point of interest:).....if you want to get away from pretty much everything...thats a place to do it..

Never understand why its called Dekel Beach and Keaton Beach...cause there aint no beach....

I would love to go to the Keaton Beach area. Fishing and seclusion sounds like my kind of vacation. My family would enjoy that for about 30 minutes then they would be ready to leave. Without shopping & touristy things to do, they would go stir crazy.

We are going to gayturd land for spring break and all I've asked of my family is to let me go fishing while we are there.

yep tnjim..they would go stark raving crazy....its a place that either your wife loves to fish if you took her or you need to go with some fishing buddies...

Doesn't sound like a place to take the wife.
