There are a number of family analogies in the wide and wonderful world of sports.
Bear Bryant always said that "Mama called" when he returned to Alabama as head coach in 1958. Such is the clarion call of your alma mater. When you alma mater calls, you answer. That's the politically correct thinking these days.
He later did a commercial for some telephone company in Alabama about the need to "Call your Mama" on a regular basis. Hope he wasn't eating Golden Flake potato chips and swigging Coca-Cola at the same time.
Kevin Steele, identified as "Tennessee 1979" in the Vol football brochure, p. 199, coached for the Vols in 1982 and 1987. He is considered, for better or worse, part of the "Tennessee family."
Apparently several of the good folks posting on Outermonvolia were not dazzled by Steele's on-again, off-again courtship with his old school. He was coming, then he wasn't. It appears now he isn't. That could change in the next few hours.
