I just don't see it boys and girls.

Our ends are undersized as it is ... do you move Walker to LB??

I guess you stick Ben Martin and G. Williams at the ends .... but again ... small!!

Smith would seem to be a natural LB in that scheme too.

Is Hughes a big enough space eater for the Nose? Seems to me he'd fit the end position better actually.

I don't know ............ I could see us getting eaten alive running that shitt .... we don't have anything close to what Bammer had personnel wise.

I think you're right. The interior would be the problem.

Our DEs get run over as it is.
Problem for us in a 3-4, are the DTs. Hell, the DTs are just a problem period, we don't have but 2. And Ray Sykes, ?
Possibly John Brown, a 2010 commit, could play next year. We're dead meat unless we do something here.

I believe that CWalker, GWilliams, and BMartin could play ILB in a 3-4;
everyone on the other boards talk about moving those guys to the outside LB in a 3-4, but I've watched them carefully this past year, and they just do NOT have the speed and agility to cover the perimeter as a LB. NO way.

If you did have enough DT-types, say 5 anyway, in a 3-4 then our LB problem would be solved: put all the LBdepth at OLB, and play the above-mentioned personnel at ILB with NReveiz. That would put GKing, SFrazier, LThompson, HLathers, and JAskew at OLB. Surely out of all those 2 could be pretty decent?

If we went to the 3-4. possibly guys like WBohanon and SFowlkes, as well as any of last year's DEs that were not in at ILB (GWilliams, BMartin, CWalker), could play DL as pass-rushers in passing downs.

Thoughts?

I honestly am starting to think this may be our best option with the personnel problems we face.

Walls was an LB now grown into a DT and could easily be the run stopping Strong side DE with Williams/Martin/Bohannon& then you have Hughes/Jeffrey(hopefully Brown) the NT and Martin/Williams/Miller/Smith/Fowlkes as Rush DE. Then you have the big LBs, Walker & J Smith to mix in at rush DE as well as LB with the seniors coming back from injuries(Frazier/Reveiz) and Thompson, King, Askew, M Thornton, Hawkins, Lathers and whoever else I'm forgetting.

Only needing 3 DL types each play eliminates our DT issues. We have some great tweener types that can be mixed between rush DE & LB with Walker/Williams/Miller/Smith and a few others.

The tweeners will supplement our weaknesses at LB and allow some mean stunts and pressure packages. This gives us interchangeable parts at DE/LB position and eliminates our problem with depth at DT. Not to mention it will have opposing OLs heads spinning.

We will match up with UF and some of the speedier/deeper teams- even better getting one more speed guy on the field by trading a DT for an LB.

The DL wouldn't be my concern. Hughes has the frame and size to play NT. Walls at one DE and maybe Williams at the other. The problem would be the 2 MLB. Need bigguns there, 240 range and all our LB's are smallish.

It all depends on who we hire at DC

We have to have a DC before we run anything.
