I can't believe I took 30 minutes of my time to look this up, but I couldn't stand it. In all of Cy's ramblings about ruining Cy Jr's coaching career because Kiffin didn't allow him to get his master's degree and become "certified", I scrolled through a few schools websites and looked up a few interesting things. (Let me add: Statistically, this proves nothing. There was no method in my madness in the schools I randomly picked -- It does, however, show a pattern that kills his argument)
In no particular order:
Georgia:
(1) John Eason (WR coach) Began his career at Leon H.S. in Tallahassee then straight to F.S.U. as WR coach. No GA post.
(2) Jon Fabris - Coached at various colleges starting out, then served ONE yr. as Notre Dame GA, then straight to full time assistant.
(3) John Lilly - Was H.S. assistant four years, THEN went to F.S.U. as G.A.
(4) Rodney Garner - No coaching experience whatsoever, straight to Auburn
(5) John Jancek - (LB coach) ONE year as G.A., then straight to full time assistant at another school.
Auburn:
(1) Phillip Lolley - 22 years as H.S. coach, straight to Auburn (No g.a.)
(2) Tracy Rocker- Went straight from Auburn H.S. to West Alabama (No g.a.)
(3) Gus Malzahn - H.S. head coach, straight to Arkansas. (No g.a.)
(4) Gene Chizik - Started as D.C. from Seminole H.S. - THEN went to G.A.
(5) Jeff Grimes - Served as H.S. coach, THEN to G.A. post
(6) Tommy Tuberville (yeah, I know - He is gone) - Coached 4 yrs at Hermitage H.S. then straight to Arkansas State (No G.A.)
Florida:
(1) Steve Addazio - Served 2 yrs as assistant at small college, then 6 yrs at H.S., then straight to assistant @ Syracuse - No G.A.
(2) Vance Bedford - 1 yr H.S., 1 yr Juco, straight to Colorado State (No G.A.)
(3) Kenny Carter - Straight to Furman as assistant (No G.A.)
(4) Chuck Heater - Straight to Northern Arizona (No G.A.)
(5) Dan McCarney - Straight to Iowa (No G.A.)
Kentucky:
(1) Rich Brooks - Ore. St. freshman asst, 1 yr H.S., back to Oregon St. as full assistant (No G.A.)
(2) Larry Brinson - Straight to Air Force as Asst. (No G.A.)
(3) Steve Brown - Straight to St. Louis Rams as asst. (no G.A.)
(4) Steve Ortmayer - Served one yr as G.A.
(5) Randy Sanders - Volunteer Asst. Coach - Then to UT (No G.A.)
(6) Chuck Smith - From Boyle Co., Ky. H.S. straight to UK (No G.A.)

(1) Brennan Carroll -(obviously, he had a connection, but NO G.A. - Straight to USC
(2) Nick Holt - One yr as H.S. coach, then ONE yr. as G.A., straight to full time
(3) Todd McNair - Three years as H.S. coach, straight to NFL - No G.A.
(4) John Morton - Bounced around as practice squad player in NFL and World League, then straight to Oakland Raiders (No G.A.)
(5) Ken Norton Jr. - One year as Asst. H.S. coach, straight to USC (No G.A.)
(6) Pat Ruel - One yr. as G.A., then straight to Asst. position
(7) Steve Sarkisian (yep, I know he is gone - but he was still listed) - One yr as Juco assistant, straight to USC (No G.A.)
