BOARD RULES - PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING RULES ABOUT POSTING ON THE BOARD. THESE ARE NOT SUGGESTIONS OR GUIDELINES. THESE ARE THE RULES FOR POSTING HERE.

NUMBER ONE

Address the post, not the poster. Insults and personal attacks are not allowed. Posts will be deleted and if it continues the poster will be banned.

You can’t say: You’re an idiot.

You can say: That post doesn’t make sense.

NUMBER TWO

Flamers need to seek elsewhere to post. If your primary purpose is to incite the board and provoke posters into a fight, you’re in the wrong place.

This is the primary complaint on the board. If your posting style is such that you just want to be disruptive and see how many people you can inflame with your remarks, then you need to find a new playground.

NUMBER THREE

Don't tell other people how to post. If you're not interested in a topic, ignore it. If a particular poster or posters bother you, put them on ignore.

The board has moderators. It does not need board nannies directing people how to post or passing judgment on the board. Either keep it to yourself or take it elsewhere.

NUMBER FOUR

This is primarily a board for TENNESSEE fans. They are passionate – and defensive – about their teams.

If you are a fan of another school, you are welcome, but please remember you are in someone else’s house and behave accordingly. What you might say about Tennessee on another board could be unwelcome here.

A family adage seems to apply on these message boards: I can hit my sibling, but you can’t. If you hit my sibling, I am coming after your post, and so is my sibling.

Most of the fans of other programs posting here have been fine. Please continue that pattern.

We do have an OPPONENTS board. Use it for topics about other schools and coaches that are going to be divisive on this board.

Please do not bash student-athletes of any school here. They are college athletes. Be respectful.

NUMBER FIVE

Vulgar profanity causes complaints. Please don’t use it, implied, direct, or otherwise. Hell and damn are not vulgar. Limit it to those if you must.

Also, racist remarks will not be tolerated. They are rare but have been deleted in the past. It is unlikely that referencing someone’s race is ever going to be relevant so stay away from it.

NUMBER SIX

Be respectful of the Lady Vol program, coaches and players.

Posters can criticize without being overly negative all the time or in attack mode on the program.

Tennessee players, coaches, staff, families, and recruits read the board. Please remember that as you post, and don’t post here what you would not say to them in person, because they are reading it.

Any criticism needs to be backed up with something tangible. Don’t just bash a player or coach because you’re in a bad mood and want to vent. Explain why you think a player needs to improve or what the coach could have done differently.

Posting that so and so “sucks” is not criticism. It’s sophomoric and will be waxed. If it continues, so will the poster.

Players and teams are held to high standards. Adopt a few yourself for your posting style.

NUMBER SEVEN

This is not the place for rampant speculation and rumors that are un-based in any fact.

DO NOT SPECULATE ON TRANSFERS.

That has caused dissension on the board and nothing good comes from the post. It gets the board in attack mode, and the posts are nothing but unfounded speculation.

NUMBER EIGHT

Do not post your opinion as fact. You are entitled to your opinion – within board rules – but not your own set of facts. Please recognize the difference.

Also, please DO NOT post medical info or speculation about players’ medical conditions. This is treading into privacy areas and is also irresponsible. Nobody here is qualified to speculate on such and anyone who actually is knows it’s not ethical to discuss a particular player’s medical prognosis.

It is OK to discuss the generics of an injury - what is known about it, recovery time, etc., but DO NOT presume to know how a particular player will respond to the injury. All bodies heal on their own timetable. The only one you are qualified to specifically discuss is your own.

NUMBER NINE

Tone and tenor get lost on a message board so ask a poster what he/she meant before taking offense and erupting on the board.

Also, this board is not a substitute for psychotherapy. If you have to always be right and can never admit a mistake, a message board is a bad place for you.

If you can't handle criticism of your opinion, a message board is a bad place for you.

If you have strong opinions and recoil when confronted with the same, a message board is a bad place for you.

If you enjoy hashing out topics related to basketball and can do so without taking umbrage if someone disagrees with you, a message board is a good place for you.

NUMBER TEN

This is a community of people who care about Lady Vol basketball. Some have been here for years so get to know them and the board and its assorted characters.

New posters should introduce themselves in some fashion - first name or location or how they became a fan or some such.

If you're a new poster and your first few posts are to bash the team or the board or the coaches it raises legitimate suspicions about what your intent is here.

Don't be a stranger once you decide to post. If you only show up after something goes wrong - a loss - and suddenly have all the answers, then your motives also are questioned and your posts drift into flame status.

Become a part of the community and share in the ups and downs, not just one or the other.

Also, keep in mind that many posters know each other on and off the board so their posting style can sometimes reflect that familiarity.

NUMBER ELEVEN

DO NOT use the PM system to harass posters. If asked to stop PMing someone, do so. If it continues, the poster will be banned.

NUMBER TWELVE

Do not lift entire articles and post them on the board.

Copy and paste a few paragraphs and provide a link.

NUMBER THIRTEEN

There is an OPPONENTS board at:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=7&f=1406

Use it for UConn topics. The exception would be the rare game thread, such as in the NCAA tourney when they played an SEC team and there was interest in that.

But, for the most part, topics about UConn's program and its coach get posters in an uproar. Take it to OPPONENTS.

Other teams do not seem to generate this response so other general topics about women's basketball are OK.

NUMBER FOURTEEN

This is a private enterprise. There is no constitutional right to post here. It comes with rules and expected standards. Follow them or find somewhere else to post.

NUMBER FIFTEEN

Please do not discuss politics and religion and other hot-button social issues. There are rare exceptions when they overlap with basketball in the news, but they are rare so please avoid them otherwise.

Threads asking for prayer, thoughts, etc., when a poster has a death in the family or is facing surgery or something of that nature are OK.

NUMBER SIXTEEN

The board has advertisers who pay for the right to be here. Do not use this board to solicit business or advertise your product or website unless it has been approved by Scout.

NUMBER SEVENTEEN

Remember who this board is named after. Show the class and sportsmanship that Pat Summitt does.
