If you could sum up Fulmer's Career as a HC in one word would it be overrated or underacheiver?
Even though I loved winning the 98 NC I never felt like we were the best team that year. If Chris Weinke would have played that game I think there is no way we would have won that game. I think we had the talent just not the coaching.

The way he got the job. Manning coming. The boatloads of talent through the 90's. The fumble. Yes, okay Wenke. [Although I'm not convinced we lose if he plays]
Then since the 98 season he magically managed to play some stupendously ugly football and avoid a number of embarrassing losses - until his luck finally ran out. Contract extensions and raises without results.
The best one word description I can think of is LUCKY.

Fortunate he was surrounded by unbelievable players.
Fortunate he was coaching in a time that most of the other programs were having down years coaching changes.
Fortunate he was receiving millions to produce mediocrity.
Fortunate he was not fired before he was.
Of course the word Lucky could be inserted for fortunates but hey I am a non-comformist.

When the self motivating players left (like the Mannings and Al Wilsons) and then the better coaches on the staff also left, and were replaced by DUMB-FUCKS then his carear is BANTHA-FOODO! I think that is how you spell it.

was because of Majors hard work. Granted Fulmer kept it strong longer than Bill Battle who inherited an equally strong program. But it was Johnny Majors who built the program from the ground up, the Fulmer destroys it from the roof down.

Bingo!! Fulmer did not surround himself with the necessary group of motivated Asst. Coaches to keep UT at a high level of play. Way too concerned about the good ole boy network.
